IMO its not rocket science to press the break if your car suddenly accelerates.

Criminal charges should be brought against Ken Watanabe, former President & CEO of Toyota who stepped down in 2009 and was succeeded by Akiyo Toyoda, grandson of the founder.

    Why?

Its known that Ken was responsible for the "push" to beat GM in sales which resulted in the same mistake Hyundai initially made - too rapid expansion. Result? Quality is sacrificed.

Ken's expertise lie in efficiency and cost reduction. The moment he took the helm, he began using cheaper (not just less expensive, but lower quality) materials and emphasized quantity over quality in all aspects, assembly, engineering, suppliers, dealers, etc.

Initially he was a hero to shareholders, citing the millions he saved the company. Inevitably, this led to losses culminating in the $1.7 BILLION  loss in 2009, the year he stepped down (read as "was forcibly replaced").

So, put a bean counter in charge and watch while he sacrifices a 70-year reputation in the name of a couple of good years for the bottom line. Then, after the losses have mounted to the level of catastrophy, spend more time (years) and money (millions) mopping up the mess (lawsuits, etc.) and trying to regain the customers trust. Ya, that makes sense - NOT!

Didn't the Japanese used to commit HaraKiri (Seppuku) when they brought shame upon themselves? Seems more fitting than a jail sentence.

Sometimes you just gotta wonder...

blame always seems to find the one trying to clean up the mess, not the one who caused it

Hell no. Toyota has been hit hard enough by this as it is. And god knows how many issues other manufactures have had the were covered up or swept under the rug. Im still convinced that this only got as huge as it did to help the American auto manufactures. I work for another manufacture that could easily have a similar safety concern but since the market is smaller no one knows about it and our manufacture still has no repair for it going on about 4 years. (would u rather have ur car accel or shut off on the freeway?)
