Okay so last month I bought a 2005 Tacoma DC 4x4 SR5 and got a really good deal probably too good to be true and it turned out that I got the certified pre-owned warranty with it. The truck had 58k miles on it so I figured I would have a 2 year 42k warranty to see if the truck had bugs since the warranty is 7yr 100k from in service date.

Well yesterday I got my warranty cards and the in service date they have on the paperwork is 8/2008 so my warranty cards say my warranty is good until 2015. Since I mostly ride a motor scooter to work I am beyond excited since I will take that long to put on the 42k miles. So how could my 2005 tacoma have a 2008 inservice date?

My dad (who has worked for Ford his entire life) said that some national fleets will buy trucks/cars and keep them without using them and they don't go into service until they first drive them. I guess only national fleets can do this but I am surprised how a new Tacoma can sit around for 3 years. (If the date on my warranty is correct).

I guess. I always thought the 4x4 Tacomas were hard to get. I figured if they had them they would sell them. Every lot I went to only had a handful of 4x4's when I looked. The dealer I bought mine from had maybe 2 used 4x4's and about 25-30 prerunners.

Could be it was severely damaged in an accident upon deliver before it was ever put into service. Maybe it took them a few years to really fix it up to sell it the first time. Probably no one wanted to buy it with the major damage it had.

    j/k
    Yeah, I know. I'm a sick SOB.:D

    None yet! It's new!
I don't know about your dates, but I'll tell you - the certified used car warranty is great. I have one on my 2009 (yes, a 2009) that I bought with 3,000 miles on it. The warranty rocks! Of course I'm still on the factory warranty, but they've done minor work on my truck just as if I'd bought it brand new. Evan after reading the fine print, it really surprised me. It's the way to go if you can get it.

haha no I pulled a carfax. It had a minor rear end collision where the rear chrome bumper was replaced but we checked it out thoroughly before purchase and there is no bent metal under the truck. That accident was after the inservice date so I don't think it was due to major damage.
