All, I'm looking at a Toyota TRD Off-Road (2010) 6 spd. MT, and have no idea whether or not the dealer is offering me a decent deal or not.
I just want to know I'm getting a fair price.
    They're saying $29200.00 + taxes and fees.
Do you think I can get a better deal?
I'm in Colorado, so any recommendations are appreciated. If I can find something, I'm ready to move immediately.

Thanks for any advice in advance.

Sounds about right, probably $1000 cheaper here on the Ms. Gulf Coast. My 2010 SR5 4x4 sticker was $31,531. Got $20,000 trade in for my '08 Pre-Runner and they gave me a a couple more thousand off the sticker.

Edit....was automatically thinking double cab, sorry.

Sorry, forgot to mention cab/bed configuration.
Looking at a double cab, short bed.

No trade in, as I'm selling my current car on my own - so I'm really looking for a "real" price, without the typical built in buffer that would be present with a trade in.

    Thanks again

Look up the invoice price and ask for another $1000-500 off; unless its a 4x4 it seems a bit high to me.

Look up invoice price with ALL installed options and add not more than $500 and you got a great deal.

I got mine (same truck) for invoice + $100 (cash deal) but it had been sitting on the lot for about 3 months (I knew that and told them so).

No don’t add, subtract; I have gotten two tacos at or below invoice. The dealer still makes thousands even at invoice.

That may be what happened to you at the time. But when you have the truck you want standing right in front of you and you pay not more than $500 over invoice and drive it off right there, you still got a great deal.

Yes, the dealer will make money (or they won't sell it to you) but at some point you have to ask yourself what the truck is worth to you. I think getting a $25000-30000 Tacoma for $500 over invoice is quite acceptable and should make the buyer feel good while driving it home. And feeling good about it is what counts after all.

The question is what a good price is.

    Below invoice is desirable.

How do you find out what is acceptable to the dealer?

Tell them what you are going to pay (a little below invoice) and you either get it or they let you walk out of the dealership.

Either you drove it home or you will have to call again next day.
Ask them if they have made up their mind but don't go back to the dealership for some more haggling.
Ask them for their final offer but don't offer any more at this point.

Call them back if you want the truck for that price and tell them that you will pick up the truck shortly.
If the price is more than $500 over invoice you are paying too much but you know what you are paying for: I have to have the truck right now.
    And that's OK too.

Someone will always get a better deal but that doesn't mean that you didn't get a great deal as well.
You have to find out at what price the dealer does not want to sell you the truck anymore.

A good or great price is somewhere around invoice but I would not pay more than $500 over.

You may or may not beat the best price quoted here on the forum and that's because there are variables in the dealer's calculation you cannot control (model availability, color desirability, time on the lot, number of customers looking at the vehicle and so on)

    Cheers,
    Peter

    Too few to list.
Just ask to see the invoice and work from there. Most good dealership will show it to you and give it to you for pretty close to that whether it is under or over.
