WOW tailgate really is weak

Can anyone provide us with the correct tailgate weight limit?

I searched TW and finally found it.

I still can't find it in my 09 manual but I do trust jandrews post.

 

I never had a problem with mine loading and unloading my bikes but after reading about it I went ahead and reinforced mine up just incase.

(the little piece of angle extrusion sitting on top is what is running all the way across the top on the inside)

take a sheet of 3/4" plywood and cut it to shape (or straight 'tween the wheel wells) with the tailgate down , cheaper than diamond plate spreads the weight better AND takes some weight off the tailgate. alternate is to use 2"x10"s or such.

plan C get a liftgate ,they work great on a 3/4 ton , dont know about a Tacoma though hehe

 

I use some 2x6's under the wheels of my Honda Rancher. I cut them down to run the length of the bed and open tailgate. No problems so far, I can feel the slack in the tailgate cables when the bike is loaded so they do work. Only problem will be during loading/unloading for excessive weight on the tailgate.

 

If you do a search on TN you'll find a thing called a "Gator Saver" a guy there was building and selling these thing. Very nice work! But I don't think he does it any more.

But you might find a used one floating around. G/L!
