(Sorry if this is in the wrong section mods, I didn't really know where else to put it.)

So as some of you may know, I hit my bumper pretty hard off-roading the other day and killed my tail light and messed up my bumper pretty good. I also have some lower bedside damage from where the bumper made contact with it. When I went to get an estimate from my dealership's body shop, I was told that the entire bedside needed to be painted just because of some chipped paint. Alright whatever, I'll get an estimate somewhere else and see what they say.

Anyways, that was all bull shit info that you didn't need to know.

My main concern was that when the lady told me about painting the bedside, they had to remove the fender (obviously). She said that sometimes they break and they cost $600 to replace. I didn't say anything but I was like "what the fuck?!?!?". It wasn't broke it when I brought it in, if you break it taking it off, then you're replacing it. If they're that fragile then fucking be careful! Is it wrong to think that?

    Just wanted some thoughts...

That's what got me. She said I would have to pay for a new fender if they broke it taking it off!

So if I made a contract stating that the fender is not broken and if it is broken by the body shop then the body shop will pay for a new one, what if they don't agree to it? I doubt they would since they specifically said I would pay for a new one...

Sounds like an easy way to make a couple hundred extra bucks...I mean what reason would they have NOT to break it if the customer is going to give up more money to them...

Take it to a different dealer if that is the case..that is BS. I know Toyota Carlsbad has a collision center and they have been good in my experience.

Oh and I think flares are like 150 each when I was getting quotes for them before I went Vinyl.

I'll try them Tri. Thanks. This was the Toyota of Escondido Collision Center. The parts department and service has been good to me, but that fender thing surprised me.

Did you ask them the explanation on why you would have to pay for it if they break it...that does not make any sense to me.

What about doing a high clearance rear bumper and chop the lower portions of the fenders and the flares?

Nope, I was in a hurry because I had to get to class. I will be asking though when it's time for me to actually get the body work done. Probably a couple of weeks.

Yeah that would be a good idea....I am sure it would be a lot less...and more functional.

I'm not THAT hardcore off-road.

Plus if I plan on trading the truck in (for another Taco ;)), I wouldn't want to trade it in with the bedsides all cut up. :p

Yea... seriously I would find another shop if they say they're going to break it before even finishing a quote. Lol horrible marketing.

    Also, trading for a 4x4? :D

I took off all of my fender flares when I put on my bushwackers and none of them broke!

Possibly, or converting. I know it's expensive and will be a pain in the ass, but I figure I'll at least look into it. :p

The tabs sometimes break off but just take the tab and fender to a plastic weld shop and they should fix it NP.
