Mine melted and I had HID's installed. My dealer said they had seen several and replaced them under warranty. No questions asked.

Mine are exhibiting this problem w/ stock bulbs. The driver side is worst (burnt and cracked) than the passenger side which is showing signs of bubbling in front of the bulb.

My 09 has not had this problem so far, but they do feel pretty hot
when left on for a while.
I wonder if there is a relatively easy way to turn the DTRL's off.

Shouldn't be that hard to find the wires for the bulb and put a switch
    in the circuit.

    Anybody do this...just wondering?
...or is there some law against now?

btw, those LED ones look nice...

    Thx,
    Paul

I just noticed mine were experiencing this problem when I was washing the truck recently. The DTRL's are suppose to be a safety feature as all the new vehicles seem to have them to make you more visible during daylight.

Why some folks are experiencing this problem and others are not is a question that I will discuss with the servicing dealership when I take it in to have my tire pressure recalibrated per the safety announcement.

I spoke to my dealer and he mentioned that Toyota is asking dealers to record all counts of this problem. They will likely issue a TSB requiring lower wattage bulbs. My dealer is also replacing my headlights (out of warranty) as soon as Toyota has made up their mind as to how they will handle the problem.

Here is a write-up on how you can turn your DTRL's on and off as you please. I havent done this mod yet but will some day.

Well, your right. Just as a follow up to this thread, my 09 experienced the DTRL melted lenses as well and the dealer replaced both headlamp assys. and I have had no issues since. (work done about 3-4 months ago)

After reading this I stopped by the parts store and picked up a set of Sylvania LL 3057A bulbs and popped them in. They look to be the same brightness to me. Could the slightly less power draw really make a significant difference in heat?? Or did I just waste five bucks....?

Matts,,not a waste of $5..when they could save you replacing a $100 light. and they're only like 1.something watt less than OEM.. not much of a discernable diff.. imo.
