fj cruiser an tacoma have the same engine right?

    my friend has an fj and says he has to use premium fuel??? i thought the tacoma and the fj shared the same 4.0 V6. what am i missing here?

    DR coilovers, DR rear reservoir shocks, Deaver custom 11 pack leaf springs
    Toyota recommends the premium for "optimum" performance, but it's not necessary. You can run any grade you like.

    The 2010 FJ Crusier doesn't share the same engine as the Tacoma. Well same displacement, however it has Dual VVT-I, like the 2010 4runner. However they don't require premium fuel.

    I just read an article that says they are all sharing the same engine for 2010. Not a toyota site just doing some looking about.

    I have four friends with FJ's. From 07 to 2010.
    Till 2010 both trucks had the same engine and they, both require -premium minimum 91 fuel. In 2010 the FJ engine is different. Double VVTI. Does not require premium any more.

    The Tacoma stay the same. Toyota suggest that we use premium but some guy's are using regular with out any problem.

    A lot has to do with the -load, altitude and personal choice. If you don't hear any pinging ???? Your choice.

    09 says -premium. Looks like they made some changes.

    87 octane is fine for the Taco unless you want to buy oil executives another 10,000 shower curtain or some such thing

    The Silver Fresco Metallic '09 Toyota FJ Cruiser in our brawl came with a 4.0L 1GR-FE 24-valve engine with variable valve timing resulting in 239 hp and 278 lb-ft of torque and requires premium 91 octane gas. The engine feeds a five-speed A750F automatic with a 3.520:1 First gear and a 0.716:1 overdrive. The transfer case is a part-time VF2A with a 2.56:1 low range.
