New 2010 Tacoma -- Good deal?

Looking at a new 2010 Tacoma dbl cab, 4X2, sb, with options SL pkg, running lights, floor mats, and 6-disk cd.
Dealer is quoting $24,451 + ttl. Dealer would throw in an iPod, 1-year free car wash, and 2-year free maint plan.

Good deal or is this just an avg price?

Thanx,

guzzel

Haven't priced one in a while but in June of '08 I got mine (double cab 4x2 sport package) for $22,400 + ttl. Threw in the rubber mats as well. What area are you looking for it in?

Hmm.. I'm from TN, so don't know any dealerships out there. All I can tell you is to shop several dealerships in the biggest cities around you. The dealership in Chattanooga, TN wanted me to pay $27,800 for the exact same truck as the one I bought in Atlanta, GA for $22,400. I told them the place in TN the quote I got from ATL and they told me 'It can't be the same truck. That's not possible!' Don't believe a dealership until you get the price you want or whatever is the lowest.

The dealership I bought from: Marietta Toyota. Salesman:Steve Howard - Internet Sales.

If you don't mind working long distance you could call my salesman. Supposedly he can get the best price because he sells a lot online. I know he sold a Camry that day to a guy from Michigan because it was cheaper to fly and buy it in ATL than buy it in Michigan.

With Toyota's current problems, they should be able to beat that deal. Right now there hurtin a bit. Now's your chance to get a truck priced where it should be, instead of where they think they can sell it to you.

Tuck2,
that was my thinking -- to take advantage of the bad publicity.

While the price might not be bad and the incentives they have offered aren't the worst, it just seems that they could sweeten the deal just a bit. You also might try negotiating with a couple of dealerships instead of hanging your hat in only one place. Then play one against the other to see if they are really serious about making the sale. Just my thoughts.

I would tell him to keep the carwash. They will destroy your paint. (handwash is the only way to go) Have him throw in some running boards or whatever else you want. Tint windows? maybe? For what its worth.

Nah, with all the crap happening to Toyota, tell him you want all that stuff and the 5 year warranty. Tell him your not sure if your comfortable with a Toyota and all the problems and you want to feel secure about spending that much money.
Anyway, he is making some reasonable offers but squeeze him. Ford makes a pretty new F150 that is selling for about the same price-

It's kinda like a woman. They have these tools. They use them to get what they want. Don't ask me how, but damn they get pretty much anything they desire. Just a shame they don't do well negotiating with auto dealers. lol

Thanks for all the replies. Yep, been in contact with 4 Toyota dealers around the area, and this is the lowest price i've secured. Once i told the others about this price, none have called me back.

I worked the numbers over at intellichoice.com, and with the price of just over $24k the dealer is only making about $250 over invoice. Plus, I do qualify for the Toyota incentive of $500 military, so that makes it that much better.

But, with 250 over invoice, i know they're still making some money with the dealer holdback.

True about the dealer incentives, with the Ipod and 2-year maint plan, but maybe i can squeeze a little more out of them.

BTW, this is through their Internet sales dept, so they know that i'm checking other dealerships.

In the right environment/weather that would be cool, but not a real big demand for it San Antonio.

HI Guzzel,
Sounds like your working all the angles. If you haven't already, now might be the time to talk to the sales guy on the phone. Again, you might mention your wavering between this and some other model and the price is pretty good for that truck too. Don't squeeze too hard and don't commit to anything at that time or even talking with a private party about a sale. "Maybe I'll think this over some more". They don't like to let you get away when you are hedging in different directions.
If they don't budge no big deal. Then you just have to make your decision. Might also check on the finance issue to see what interest rates they will give. good luck. Ken

I was quoted $27, 934.98 for a dbl cab with off road package. thats out the door price so it includes all the taxes and other junk. incase you havent bought it yet just beware if they try to sell you any warranty.

Hi Ken,

I'm on the fence between either paying cash for the vehicle, or taking advantage of a local credit union offering 3.2% for 60 months, which is really cheap money.
We'll see what shakes out. I have one more dealer that still needs to get back with me on their price. They claim they can beat $24K, but we'll see.

Invoice with those options is about $24,010...if you like the truck tell them that is not good enough. Aren't there some incentives from Toyota on new purchases, 2K/3K off or 0% APR? If so make your deal on price then tell them to apply the incentives.

One thing about the warranty is that you need to shop around. last year the wife wanted a Prius (not the recalled 2010, but the 2009. No issues with it), and the dealer wanted $2400 for the 7-year warranty. Wife was intent on getting it, so we shopped around and found it for a little under $900 from a dealer in Minneapolis.

Warranties are just like looking for vehicles; different dealers have different prices for the same item.
