I drive an 08 taco 2wd 4 cyl. I live in North FL, and drive approx 3k miles a month. I use it 6 days a week for work. I use Mobil One 5w-20 synthetic. I have been using a fram oil filter. Will switch to K & N next change. A friend says I should be able to go 15k-20k miles. I have been changing it every 5-6k miles. How many miles can I drive approx between oil changes?.

5,000 miles is the recommendation in the owners manual.

I use Mobile 1 and I change mine every 5,000 miles.

Some folks will have their oil tested to see if the oil is still good enough to run for longer than 5,000 miles (I'm sure those folks will chime in).

Personally, at 5,000 miles...the oil that comes out of my truck is really dark/dirty. I'm more than happy to spend the $$ and change it every 5,000 miles.

I change mine every 3 months or 3,000k...whichever comes first. I'd say I could wait longer, but thats just how I've always done it and always will.

My manual says 5k miles. I'll be going with that interval. I'll miss GM's oil life monitor that told you when it was time.

I use dino and change it out every 4 months (approximately 1,500 miles.) That's not much mileage, but I figure 3 times a year since dino is less expensive and the oil/filter is so easy to change.

I usually change it with Mobil1 Oil and Oil Filter. Runs like a champ.

question so how does the light know when your oil is bad. I imagine its pre-programmed to go off the trucks mileage. which is factory set. saying that I found with the expertise of my company's oil analyst that most everyone changes their oil to often. The car makers do that to make money for the oil dudes in return for some under the table cash of some sort in some way or fashion. He took a sample of my normal valvoline oil after 5k and said according to his numbers the oil and its level of contaminants could easily go for another 5 to 7k. But will I do that, probably not because I have been conditioned to believe otherwise. Just a weird late night rant I suppose.

We can probably go 15k each oil change and I doubt something will happen. But ehh. Makes me feel good I'm taking care of my baby. :D

That's 100% correct. Most engines now can even use oil that 10000 miles old and is black and viscous, but you'll see a dip in mpg and performance. My Coma's oil is dark brown now and it's gettin 2 mpg less than usual and struggles more than usual. I change it once it turns darker brown but not black mainly b/c the engine works harder.
