Has anyone replaced the e-brake with a hand brake?

I really hate the stick style e-brake in the standard models. Has anyone replaced one with a hand brake? It seems as though there would be plenty of room to cut a hole in the console and install one.

Pictures anyone? Write up anyone?

 

OH i bet thats plug-and-play.. i dont believe ive seen anyone do that swap. Start gathering part numbers!

all it is, is re-routing a cable and installing a hand brake out of another vehicle. Maybe a little fiberglass on the console to path the cupholder. It's not gonna be plug-and-play but i don't think it would be very difficult either.

 

do you mean like, a hand break (like a honda or something?) or the pull break from the stick shift tacomas?

 

There is no such thing as an emergency brake, just a parking brake. It goes to the same drum brakes in the rear.
...but we know what you mean, if you can do it , you can get a little box that goes in the old hand brake slot to boot , or put a brake box there maybe.

 

I have though about the same thing man, I have an auto though. I hate the foot pedal parking break. the cables even run right under the center console. all you would really need is a new parking break handle, some way to mount it nice and solid to the truck and hook the cables to it, and then a rubber or leather boot to cover up the hole you need to cut.
I say give it a shot!

I guess i do not get what's fast and furious about re-locating a brake...more convienience really. It would also give me a nice cubby hole to mount my ipod like you auto tranny guys and girls

 

meh, I have an auto and hate the foot brake.... If you do the swap and want to sell the parts from your factory handle, let me know!

 

i've got my ipod in the center console. works fine in there...always charged and ready to go.

 

I'm going to do it weather i'm the first person to do it or the last. I'll let you know when i have the parts from the handle, probably be a while though
