Personal Opinion: California is handing out way more non-insurance raising tickets. In the last year i have been pulled over for speeding(75 in a 65) and given a fixit ticket for my address. Pulled over for using a cell phone without out a headset ($20 police ticket, Santa Monica Courts adds $140.00 "administrative" fee even though paid on time).

Also Watch out, they will no longer send you a notice in the mail reminding you the court date and amount... check online or go in on time.... otherwise they are using GC Services to collect. Friend had a speeding ticket, first notice he got was from the DMV that his licence had been suspended. Speeding, administrative fees, late fees, collections fees: $1015 (4 months after the ticket).

Most of the police are being nice, keeping busy and finding non insurance raising items.

Personally, I would remove the tint. California's budget is going to make fees and the number of tickets handed out go up and up and up.

It's cheaper to take the tint off at home, get it signed off, and put it back on. It's $25 for the ticket an $50 to put it on (and take it off). So if I take it off at home it's cheaper by half to just play their game. But it does take more time. So it if you want to spend the time to save $75 do it youself. If you want to save the time just pay the $150 fee.

i hate tint laws. its so much nicer to drive with tinted windows.. you dont get the bright sun in your eyes so i dont see why its illegal. id say its safer to have tint. who cares if the cop cant see whos driveing the vehicle.
i was told by an officer to remove mine for haveing 20% on the front so i did and put 35% on and havnt been bothered since.
my back windows have 5% over the stock tint lol glad they dont care about the back.

Well, based on this: CHP Website

Based on that, since you have aftermarket tinting on the front driver's and passenger's windows, I think your window tint is illegal (and therefore "too dark" by definition).

Maybe you can lobby the Assembly to make it legal for environmental reasons. If it keeps the car cooler, you're not using the ac, which saves gas... blah, blah, blah. I mean, they actually considered banning black cars because they use more AC on hot days, I don't know why they wouldn't reverse the tint law if you can show them it will stop global warming.

I started doing this, but decided to stop so I dont burn my window motors out. Cops are EVERYWHERE.

Can't even have the tint across the top of the front windshield. Got pulled over for having it on my old car. CHP told me it needs to come off, even if less than 4"

Some insurance companies will actually charge you for Cell phone tickets, seat belt tickets, etc even though they are 0 point violations...

Oh, and I vote "no" by the way.

I had a friend do this it is probably the only way to fight the ticket and pay no money. If you can go to an optometrist who can write you a perscrption stating your eyes are light sensitive and can impair your driving.

Then you are good to go. Case gets overturned. Its CVC Code 26708 section 10. The only problem is that if you get caught at night your screwed.

Here is the section so no one has to look it up.

    (10) Sun screening devices meeting the requirements of Section 26708.2
installed on the side windows on either side of the vehicle's front seat,
if the driver or a passenger in the front seat has in his or her
possession a letter or other document signed by a licensed physician and
surgeon certifying that the person must be shaded from the sun due to a
medical condition, or has in his or her possession a letter or other
document signed by a licensed optometrist certifying that the person must
be shaded from the sun due to a visual condition. The devices authorized
by this paragraph shall not be used during darkness.

of not less than 35 percent.
    (c) Devices utilizing nontransparent louvers or other alternating
patterns of opaque and open sections shall have an essentially
uniform pattern over the entire surface, except for framing and

    dimension exceeding 3/16 inch.
    (d) The devices shall not have a reflective quality exceeding 35
