Has anyone swapped a TRD Offroad rear end into a 2nd Gen. 5 lug Taco? The pros would be the lower gearing, larger brakes, and factory the e-locker (+++). I'm wondering if the axle shafts are interchangeable (width, spline count) to keep the 5 lug continuity...

Also are 6 lug fenders interchangeable with 5 lug fenders?

These are "in-theory" questions so no need to jump down my throat with "Why would you want to do that? or...Just buy a 6 lug already!"

We already have a lifted '05 6 speed, V6, DC which we love and got me hooked on these 2nd Gens.

I recently got a deal on a heavily modded (street) '05 5lug and I'm gonna de-mod-it and re-mod-it Mini Tacito style (TC UCA's, Icon CO's, BeefTacos skid plate, etc.). I'm not sure what to do about the rear as I don't want to be bouncing around on an AAL. An additional benefit of the TRD Offroad rear would be the spring perches are already on top of the axle for a spring-over.

Thanks in advance for your positive input.
    Aloha

I think you could probably do it. The axle shafts should both be 30 spline, don't know about the width though. I've thought about it myself, but figured it would be to hard to find a complete rear end within close proximity of where I live. Shipping seems like it would kill the deal. You'd also need the elocker harness, switch, and 4wd/Prerunner ECU (i think that's what it's called) from the donor truck.

Sounds like a lot of work, but then again so does putting on the TC/Deaver rear LT kit and regearing with an ARB. Also I've heard you get less axle wrap with spring under axle, so that might be something to think about.

Good luck and let's see some pics as you go!

Thanks for the reply...I understand the need for the harness and the switch but can you explain why I would need the ECU from the 4x4/prerunner? Thanks

theres a thread up on custom tacos about something similar to this. its about re-gearing but it think if i remember correctly theres some mention of what your trying to do and the fitment etc.

oh yah and if you do go leaf over axle u prob could use your stock springs and get a pretty mean lift. u just gotta flip the pin inside
