Bent rear axles?

I took my truck to the shop to do a tire rotation and they noticed a problem..
My rear terra grappler tires have been wearing out unevenly.. the tread on the inside are already worn out after 15k miles on them.
They told me the tires on the back cannot have camber wear.. and since I have not rotated them since they were on brand new, they think my tie rod or axle may have been bent somehow.

What do you guys think can be wrong with it? Don't they require a significant amount of force to bend the rear axles? I have never taken my truck off roading or anything.
I don't want to install new tires on the rear and have them go to waste in 15k miles again...

 

Did you buy it new? If so, ever been in an accident or jumped it? I bent my axle in a wreck, but it was pretty extreme.

 

Well, there is only one way to find out. Put a dial indicator to the rear axle and measure the run out. It wouldn't be the first time a rear axle has bent.

 

Sound fishy to me, but if they are worn like that and they have not been rotated I guess it possible. Seems like there would be other problems like bad axle seals or bearings maybe even rear end noise. Might take a bit of investigating like some friends and a couple straight edges across the axle end flats and a tape measure top to top and bottom to bottom. there is really no way to adjust it but maybe a alignment shop could confirm how much its out. What year is the truck how many miles and are you the original owner?

 

It is a 2005 trd sport prerunner with approx 65k miles.
It was involved in a slight collison which was mostly cosmetic..

The tires were aired to the recommended psi on the tire wall. I checked it about every month or so.

Could there be any other possibility of uneven tread wear for the rear tires?

 

Your truck lifted? If your axles were bent you would probably have a hellish vibration. Could be non balanced tires. Hard to say. You don't have tie rods in the rear end though.

 

If they said your tie rods in the rear might be bent, I would take it to another shop.

 

Check your wheel bearings

 

Sounds like they wanted to make an xtra buck. They probably rotated the tires front to back and then said , " Your tie rods are bent in the back." What a bunch of dummies. lol. I imagine thats why the tires were worn on the inside if there was never any rotation.

 

It is at stock height and supension.. I will try another shop to get another look.

Sounds like an alignment related problem. I'd get someone else to take a look, it's hard to know what they did if they're saying your rear tie-rods are bent. Did they fill your blinker fluid and check your muffler bearings too?
