Leaking Front Crank Seal

So i had a leaking front crank seal for awhile now. Finally got around to changing it out. Its relatively easy but a bitch to get the right tools. No pictures since everything was covered in oil/dirt, from the crank all the way to the back of my oil pan. The seal is made of hard rubber or plastic, and the seal puller i got finally worked after taking a chunk of skin off my knuckle. There is no hammer room, and the replacement seal kit i got at kragans was a joke.....return. You'll need to get a piece of pvc pipe the same diameter as the seal, and an end cap. Drill a hole in the middle of the cap. place cap on the pcv and use that with the bolt to press the seal in. If the PVC and end cap combo exceeds 1" in length your screwed since the bolt won't be able to catch any threads. 20 min job took 4 hours. My anguish your gain. If you need to replace the front crank seal after warranty that is how you will do it.

 

Is this a v6 and about how many miles were on it when you started to notice the oil slick?

 

It's the V6, I noticed it around 60,xxx, and i have about 75k right now. Checking the dipstick you can't tell you have a leak, only by looking at the area under the crank. Everything was covered in oil, dirt, and sand.

 

Me and my dad replaced the front crank seal on his 07 and it went like a breeze. We didnt use a seal puller or whatever its called lol. We just pulled it out with a flatblade and pliers I think. Im not quite sure why you had to go threw all of that trouble?

 

Thanks, I take it you went to Toyota for the seal after the Kragen one was determined to be crap. Good to see you did it yourself instead of paying someone else to do it.

 

I got the seal from toyota. I got the tools from kragens. I thought about pliers or a flat head, but this was my first ever attempt at replacing something i've never done before. Plus i didn't have anything that could press the seal in.

 

We got it from Autozone. But it only leaked cause WE damaged it when installing a NST crank pulley..
