    Thanks mate.

I lived in Calgary for a number of years. I wonder if we've crossed paths.

Awesome! I'm going to make one of these, I grew up riding in BC and go back whenever I can, I was a Kamloops local.

hey, do you think using a U bracket would work decent to hold it in place ? Or do you think the angle bracket would be better? What did you use to fasten the brackets to the box? Self tapping metal screws? Thanks for the great idea, looking forward to using it.

I used a U bracket on the first one that I made a few years ago. It was ok, but I had to reduce the thickness of the ply at the ends to allow it to slide in and out smoothly. I prefer the angle that I used this time around. I fixed it with self tappers.

Thats a great rack.... another good idea... I went up and rode last weekend and brought my tailgate extender "if you have one" and litteraly just hung them over that just like your rack is doing but didn't have to worry about the tailgate getting scratched... and no building required ;) either way, Taco's are great shuttles!

Agreed. Look at the other house in the background! I want to live in your neigborhood. Must be tough during winter though.

    Nice rack by the way.:D

For the pick-up DAKINE pad, what size did you get? Large or small?

    It's a small Dakine pad I think.
Winter here is awesome. We have some of the best backcountry touring in the world 1.5hrs away and then there's Whistler/Blackcomb 35min up the road. Plus I can usually bike year round either right here in Squamish or down on the Shore in Vancouver. I like winter almost as much as summer.

Wow, nice work. Such a simple design but so functional.

I too found that the bike's wheels and forks would "sand" the paint even with a thick blanket. And the longer travel forks end up grinding the plastic off the bumper. But I think your design would eliminate that with the bike higher up.

With 5 bikes on there do the brake lights end up getting blocked? Does the DaKine pad eliminate the "sanding" effect? Have you figured out places to run a super strong chain/lock through both front and rear wheels and frame?

I'm thinking of different options/adatations to your design. Maybe add straps/cables to the tops to go over the headtube of each bike and to anchor down the wood to the bed instead of using the AAs.
Just some ideas I'm thinking of, not sure if they'd work or not

BC!! Man you're in mountain bike mecca

Old thread, but I just have to say that this is such an awesome design. I made one last weekend for myself. Had to modify it a tad, adding notches for my tonneau cover rails and latch. I tried using foam pipe insulation, but within 4 uses, it had worn through so I will be doing the heater hose as soon as I get a chance. I installed the aluminum angle pieces on an angle so the rack is tight at the bottom, but leaves room at the top for the tailgate pad.

I have had so many people comment on it in the past week. Everyone that sees it is impressed. Thanks for the great idea and design.

Thanks for the pattern Kram. Small world too. I bumped into a former coworker, Sean, here in Calgary and he was admiring the rack in the back of my Taco and telling me that his buddy in Squamish has one just like it. Sean says hi!

Pretty damn good idea. As long as you don't have a bike that has any cables running down the bottom of the down tube you should be golden.

The place you live is beautiful.

    Kram...

I know Squamish well! My son & 3 or 4 of his friends & I would journey up from SoCal every Spring for the big mountain bike event, the Test of Mettle. The Kids are Biketrials competitors & the Test was always a highlight of the year. Now we go to Whistler for CRANKWORX! Squamish gas a small fish & chips place that serves mushy peas!

Love the woods & the big waterfall above town.
