I got my 2008 with the buy back $ on my 2000. Sweet. Never would have gotten a new truck otherwise. [IMG]

Tell you friend that your not worried about it because, on the slim chance that you have a problem, Toyota will take care of you. They have a great track record!! He probably drives a Ford Ranger and he's trying to find a reason to "dis" your truck. LOL

I'm in New Brunswick and we have LOTS of snow and ice which means lots of salt on the roads. I didn't get the frame sprayed. I plan on giving this truck to my son in 10 years and I'm really not worried about it.

    Cheers.

Not to rehash an old thread but I have an 05 DC Tacoma and have had a rust problem since about 07-08. I have call toyota twice and this time actually got some valuable information. In order for Toyota to actually look into a problem they have to notice a trend of calls with complaints. they review the nature of the complaint and what vehicle it was noted on. Please if you have a 2005 or newer tacoma with a rust problem please call and complain...you don't have to be an *ss just let them know the problem you are having. If they have a lot of calls they will look into it and hoipefully do something like they did with the 2000-04 models.
Please call and tell them about it

Fluid Film the underside of your truck twice a year from when it's new. This will control most of the rust.

Curious. Where was your truck built? KY, CA or Mexico?

No need to undercoat the body. Even in '95-'04 Tacos suffering from frame rot, the body is typically in prestine shape.

They use an excessive amount of road salt in my area. My workplace also goes overboard with salting the employee parking lot (out of fear for slip-and-fall lawsuits), so much that the pavement is white during the winter months. My Taco's frame doesn't look any worse than the other trucks in the lot (Chevys, Jeeps, Ram, a Nissan Titan).

Any body even remotely associated with buying frames at Toyota should be fired - Ya just can't fix stupid.

Same here. I am in Alabama also. Right behind tire on bottom.

I'm not grinding and painting to fix it. That will bite you in the end if a warranty repair were to happen.

For such a pricey truck it is pathetic. When mine goes in for 5000 mile service in a couple months I am definitely going to point it out.

Yes, I have posted on numerous threads pertaining to this, mine, an "09" less than 30k, sets in a pristine garage & looks like someone dragged it across the ocean floor. I just don't understand how these trucks can hold their resale so good, I really like this truck, but WoW, I have looked under a lot of trucks (just to compare) & none compare to the Tacoma, I took it to the dealer for inspection & they said it looked normal!!!, I didn't argue, a waste of time, Toyota must be using all scrap to produce frames, good luck. jmop

"I took it to the dealer for inspection & they said it looked normal!!!" That is normal for Toyota - not for any other truck but for Toyota yes:(

I've had surface rust since it came off the lot in 2015. Currently in CA, but relocating to an area in WA where salt is not used. Hope this is a plus for my frame.

You talk like Toyota is the only one with a rusted frame issue. I had a 2010 Silverado that had a frame rust issue. GM in their wisdom were not even painting frames. They use a black wax coating that dries up and falls off. I went to the car wash one day to clean the truck and the coating blew off with the pressure washer exposing bare metal. I can guarantee you GM isn't replacing frames or buying back trucks.

They are also continuing with this practice. Google Silverado rusted frames to see rusted frames on new trucks.

I traded my 06 Silverado for my Tacoma, it's frame was pretty rusty from winters in Minnesota where they use some pretty nasty stuff on the roads. My 2014 Tacoma has done two winters with the same nasty stuff and it is holding up better than the Silverado did.

I've heard if you do an undercoating, it will seal up the places where salty water that gets inside the hollow frame drains out. This isn't good :). I think the better thing to do as suggested in a few posts in this thread is a oil/wax based sealant. Amsoil makes a good spray on product to do this:

    https://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-prod...nts/heavy-duty-metal-protector/?code=AMHSC-EA

    It's like 11 bucks a can.

The other product is something called 'fluid film', which I'm sure works about as well.

I havn't done the frame on my 2014 yet, but I think I will at some point.
