I am about to buy my 1st Tacoma (with a 3 month warrenty) - It's an 05 with the window "ballon squeak" noise at 65-75 mph that has been documented on other threads on this site.

In these threads it has been documented that owners were able to get the noise fixed under warrenty. However the dealer, that I am buying that Tac from, has said that Toyota said the will not fix it under warrenty.

I don't quite understand the process. Isn't there alraedy a list that Toyota maintains of what is/is not covered under warrenty?

Is there a way I should bypass the dealer and go directly to Toyota?

In general, what is the best way to get a dealer / Toyota do what they should, fix a known problem that should not exist in a Tacoma under warrenty?

No- It shouldn't have the problem if the original owner had the problem and took care of getting it fixed. You are paying for the car at this point-not for the warranty. Toyota is only on the hook for so long in regards to repairs- which is why the warranty is for a specific period.

All that being said- You can buy the truck and 1) Try to get it fixed by a dealer for free, or pay the dealer to do it. 2) You can look up the TSB here and try the fix yourself.

Tell the dealer to fix it or no sale (but be prepared to walk away from the deal if they say no).

Sorry - I should have mentioned, that as it is "certified", it has a 3 month bumper to bumper warrenty. The dealer says this is a full warenty but they also say that Toyota said this is not a warrenty repair. Which from other posts, it has been shown that Toyota will fix this under warrenty.

So how do I get them to honor thier warrenty as they have in the past with other owners?

If it's a 3 month bumper-to-bumper warrantee, then they need to fix it FREE as warrantee work.

Unless they can prove to you in the fine print that they don't have to fix it free.....then they are required to fix it.

If they don't fix it....than DON'T BUY THE TRUCK. Go elsewhere!! That dealer/dealership isn't standing behind their products/warranty.

The "certified" warranty is from the dealer- It is NOT the Toyota Corporate warranty. Additionally, most of the TSBs say "3yr/36K warranty" in them. So even the first owner past the original warranty but with an extended warranty can (and probably will) get turned down.

Best you can do is ask...If they say no-The discussion is over with them.

    You mean this warranty?

This is quoted straight from Toyota's website. I would say the squeak is related to a defect in materials or workmanship. You can either take the TSB to the dealer and tell them you want it fixed before purchasing and if not you'll walk or try to fix it yourself.
