If you don't really need the 4x4 drive it till dead, then get whatever the newest is. Only you know if you need the 4x4. Sort of how I came to buy the Taco. It got to the point where I was borrowing friends trucks 4 or 5 times a month and was delaying projects for not being able to easily move tools and materials. I absolutely needed a truck to get done what I needed to do.

I say keep what you got if you are planning on putting 36 k miles on a new one the first year.
Your not missing out on much. Maybe a back up camera is all.
I had a Black '09 manual, and traded for a '10 mag gray auto because i have a back injury and pushing in on the clutch was making my back pain worsen.
I live on gravel and black is a bitch to keep clean, and gray is slightly better for hiding dirt, but the paint is so thin on these trucks, i would seriously look into a paint job if thats the main reason you want to trade. And unless you go off roading, 4x4 is probably not necessary. I realized that once I got some good tires and put weight in the bed, I hardly ever got to use 4wd this winter.

I say no way. I liked my 2009, and my 2010 seems to have issues. If you like your current truck, why spend more when there is always the chance the truck you get may have problems that annoy you.

    back to bone stock.
let me chime in here. i think the only real reason to upgrade is the 4x4 thing. if you need more wheels spinning then go for it. but here is my old man advice. (i'm not that old)..buy another USED one. you already indicated that you will need to make payments..so why take such a beating with upfront fees and depreciation? mathematically, it just doesnt make sense. minimized the financial hemorrhaging, and buy a great used truck. it absolutely blows when you graph value, and your payments, and you see the lines cross..

I was in the same shoes...but heres the kicker. When you look into it, used ones are only $3gs less than a new one. I was pricing out used trucks and found that for my needs, going new was a lot better because a.) I knew the history of it b.) it has no miles on it and c.) I could pick exactly the truck I wanted, all for a matter of a few dollars more a month over 5 years of financing.

I've done so many mods to this truck it turned out to be a Dodge Ram 2500! WOW was that expensive!!
I own a 2005 (bought it new) and have never had to take it in for any kind of maintenance. The only thing that I need to do is take it somewhere to have the airbag checked because the light is on the dash board and that is the first warning light in the five years I've owned it. I say keep the truck.

Interesting, it seems to me that many of the individuals which don't like the traction control devices on the 2009 plus Taco's do not own one. I have owned a Taco before and after and like my 2009 just fine. I would recommend the newer Tacos to anyone. I consider my self a good driver with or without such devices and I am not one of the complainers i am learning to use what I have and I mostly like what i am seeing and using in my current truck.

    Too many mods to list
You bastard! :D You sin by tempting me!

All joking aside, I am agreeing with many here who say to keep mine. Ive noticed that here in Puerto Rico, the ones that are pre 07, tend to give less problems than 08 to 10. Why? I am not sure, but it seems that way by what some friends at some dealers are saying. As for the color, its not that much of a PRO, sure, itll annoy me less in the cleaning, but then again, my Taco looks a lot better than most Tacos once its clean, just because the shine in the black sand pearl is so goddamn awesome. The problem though, is that this aint a weekend car, its my daily driver. As for the 4x4... I want it... I can give it plenty use, but I wont die if I dont have it. Even less when im about to buy a 70s Renegade Jeep to rebuild.

One question however, can I put a locker or limited slip in a 4x2 to have a bit more traction when needed? Will it do me any good? Will it fuck up my diferential? I know I can do lots of crap with a 4x4, but im not familiar with doing 4x4 mods on a 4x2.

Can you guys get a Tacoma TRD Off Road in PR?
My friend told me that you can only get the TRD Sport but not the TRD Off Road.

I might be old fashioned, but I don't get this logic. Judging based on the change in monthly payment makes it sound great. Multiplying that $100 by payment period (I am assuming you can get 0% right now?) sounds a little uglier.

I'll put it this way. I bought myself a 2010 dc lb trd sport, non-4x4. 2 months later i went back and bought the exact same truck but this time 4x4. very happy now. Not sure why i settled for a non 4x4, as i've always owned 4x4 trucks, but anyways, what's done is done. So, my point is i am paying more money for that little mishap, but i'm happy now. I say get it and be done with it.few months down you won't even notice the difference in payment.

You left out a very important consideration - how much do you owe on the 06 and how much would you owe after buying the 10?

Don't get caught in the trap of thinking only in terms of monthly payments - that's how they own your ass.

You can turn them off... and they stay off... but why? It drives soooo much better in the rain and off road with the new LSD and VSC features... no more empty truck spin out affect!

I had an '01 and '05 without any of those things, and the '10 is so much more of an all terrain vehicle now!
