Well over a week ago I ordered some of the Famous TRD FJ cruiser Antracite wheels from their web site. I called before I placed the order to verify that they had them in-stock. The Parts guy told me they had 46 of them. So I hung up the phone and ordered them.

Their website states that you will not be billed for your order until it has shipped. Well over a week later I decided to figure out why I had been billed the day after I placed the order but had not received a tracking number or wheels in the mail. After calling numerous times I finally get through to a guy and he has to call me back. Which he does (that actually suprised me) When he calls he says that the reason they hadn't shipped my wheels was because I have not provided them a vin number for my vehicle to prove that its a Special Edition FJ cruiser. Well they never asked me for a vin Number, Never received a phone call asking for one or an email. I told the guy that I didn't have a FJ cruiser. Then he told me they would refund my money in two buisness days!!!!

Not to happy with their customer service, I would advise to stay clear from them as I will never do buisness with them again.

    Jeff

Not sure why you are mad, it is common knowledge that you need a VIN to get them, you got your money back.

He's upset with their lousy customer service, I would be too. It might be common knowledge that you need a vin, but I didn't know it either.

OP, make sure you get the credit on your CC.

Why on earth would you need a VIN to buy a vehicle part? I'm not saying you're wrong (Toyota may have some stupid policy), but that's idiotic - I have money, you have vehicle part. Let's swap.

That is how currency works, if I recall.

If you need a vin to buy these wheels really then Why can I get them from my local dealer without needing a vin? Or buy them from another toyota dealer without a vin? But what I am really upset at is the lousy customer service and the fact that if I never called they probably wouldn't have done anything to get ahold of me but take my 650 bucks!

I wouldn't call it "common knowledge" but it's because they are Toyota "Special edition" rims. I doubt you couple call Ferrari and order a set of rims for those without owning a Ferrari. (Different class of vehicle...but same concept-Exclusivity)

And you may have the money- but that doesn't mean they must sell you the product.

Big big difference there. Exclusivity with a mass produced Toyota? Joking right? lol. I hear ya, just doesn't make any sense in this case, maybe with a $250,000 vehicle. IMO, these people just F'd themselves out of a sale for no reason.

Did toyota reinstate this policy? I ask becuase they pulled the policy for these wheels 4-5 months ago. I ordered a set for my taco without vin as well.

Toyota limited the sales of these in the past because they could not keep up with the demand. As far as I know they lifted this policy for these wheels a few months ago.

Bad business practice. When I run a business, EVERYTHING is for sale for the right price. Including the business itself.

You're in business to make money...managing your brand image is one thing, but no one is ever going to mistake any Toyota vehicle for exclusive, and trying to make that pitch is just silly as fuck. All our trucks here are far more exclusive than any Toyota "special edition" on account of the mods we've done.

If this is indeed Toyota's approach here, they're severely confused.

I thought it was just the black version that required the vin#, besides the gut said they had 46 of them. Do they actually expect that many people with special editions to have have issues with theirs & need to replace? Why carry so many in stock? I'd go to the manager & flash the cash; my bet is he'll sell. Those fools can't resist the green when it's in their face; it's what it's all about to them; show em the cash & take your wheels home.:)

X10000000 I run a business as well and I always tell my customers everything is for sale. Heck we sold an item we were using last night because the customer offered the right price.

    A few bolts are different.
You dont need a VIN #. Go to a smaller dealer. Walk in with the part number written down on a little note. slide it across the counter with your money/credit card, say you need 4. Walk out a happy guy. Come back the next day and pick up your prize.

    off topic I know...

I worked for Norwood Performance and I can tell you that they didn't care at all if you owned a Ferrari or not. As long as you supplied them with the $$$$ (not finished yet) $$$$$ they were happy...
