2010 taco issues?

Question...

I'm planning on purchasing a DC 4X4 automatic this year...

I may wait to get a 2011 model (am going to try and find out from a friend of a friend who's a VP at toyota when they're coming out and if there's any changes - I know a lot of people here would like to know)...

however, my questions is, what common issues/problems are there on the current models (if any)? i mean issues that seem to pop up too often, not a one off issue... (I know they're reliable, etc. that's why I'm planning on buying one - I'm only asking about known issues, IF ANY).

I see the tsb (sp?) issue mentioned - I'm not quite sure what that is, but I assume the new models have that already fixed?

The later model years, such as the 2010 usually have the kinks worked out. They are machines and failure is always a possiblity. The first model years are always a gamble because the designs are new.

 

I would be aware of the radio. They have a high failure rate, and Toyota has not yet found a new supplier. As for frame rust that has plagued the first gen Tacomas, only time will tell if 2nd gen models are going to be afflicted, as it took a long time for that defect to appear.

I like mine so far. I simply would have liked for mine to not have been a "forced" purchase.

 

the radio, huh? well at least that's easy to replace... under warranty or an aftermarket.

i listened to their 'high end' radio... not impressed whatsoever. in fact, i was bummed it sounded so bad as you pay quite a bit for it.

 

just make sure you get the rear spring tsb before you sign anything

 

I brought my truck last August and had no problem ever since. I know there will be some minor problem in the future. Nothing new with every brand of vehicle, nothing perfect.

 

I got my Tacoma in 02/08 4x4 DC and it's great!! Everything works great!

 

yea most problems are worked out, but the dealer said I still have to get my gas pedal modified, rear tsb, and my mats fixed

 

2010 tacoma (automatic I assume):
Rear springs too soft for any towing or hauling. - TSB
Incorrect 2-1 downshift map. -TSB
Steering linkage play. -no official fix
Front brake-pad rattle. -no official fix (reinstall with disc quiet)
Soft/Spongy brakes - no official fix ("normal" per toyota), various remedies proposed by board members.
Noisy idle from engine - "normal"
Some 2010s have front driveshaft recall.
Most of the longer wheelbase Tacos exhibit driveline shudder on takeoff.
Audio failures as per above.

The manual transmissions have a pesky TO bearing issue.

Others can pick up and complete the list.

Overall good trucks for sure but certainly not the paragons of quality they are held up as. There is no way I'd let a gum snapper with a sawsall cut my pedal - that is not a fix in my eyes. If you run weathertechs it is a non-issue.
