Changing diff fluid...

So I have 8k miles on the truck, 2010 DC 4x4, and thinking about switching to synthetics in front and rear diff...

is that dumb? Was thinking Mobil 1 because I have used it in my two previous toyota trucks...

...but would like to hear what you all have been happy with...

If you got the $ and time go for it, but I would probably wait until the recommended service interval and switch to synthetics then

 

x2....Synthetic is the only way to roll...It just performs better and it's better on all the components. I gotta get around to changing my rear diff. fluid and when I do i'll use Mobile 1 Syn.

 

I did both differentials and transfer case on my '09 with about 3k miles on it. I wanted to try it and see if it helped some of my driveline noise/vibration issues. I didn't see any difference.

 

You may search the forum on this. There was an extensive DIY write up and discussion regarding the rear diff. oil change. I think if you have the LSD (TRD Sport), most agree to avoid the synthetics due to possible clattering noise. You will also need the Diff. additive. Amsoil/royal purple/or simply non synthetic oil had good feedback..Chris4x4 will surely chime in and give you his expertise

 

depends on the 8k miles. if they were hard, ugly miles (towing in deep muddy water ) i would change it out. if not, wait until the first recommended interval.

 

I just changed my diff and transfer fluids for the first time this weekend, at 48,000 miles Went with mobile 1.

Like others mentioned, cool to change to synthetic, but at least wait until the recommended service interval. Or do whatever you want, it's your money and time
