I think those particular ones come that way. Now they may have actually left the plant looking like what we sport from the factory. And some enterprising folks overseas saw the need and started making them black like we paint them here.

From what I hear some folks have good luck with them and some have leaks that fog up the inside of the lens.

I bought the botched BHLM lamps off of Ebay. Thankfully the paint was cheap and Acetone cut it all off. The reflectors have now been repainted with Black matte epoxy paint and are drying as we type. Acetone will not cut this stuff, it has to be blasted or sanded off.

Some experience flaking after a while, there will be NO flaking with this paint. But most do not have the time it takes for this paint to dry, it takes a minimum of 2-3 days under a warm fan constantly or a week or so just hanging in normal temps with no fan. Most do this mod on a weekend and a lot of times the black paint hasn't dried well and they get outgassing from the paint coating the inside of their lens. The mod really is easy, just takes a lot of patience and time to do well/right. :)

If you look for the seller revotec on ebay, he/she sells the black lights, too. They are the one I have and so far they have been trouble free.
