A couple "new" pics

Took advantage of a great day outside and the day off to do some DIY's to the Taco. Debadged the tailgate, paintmatched the Tacoma emblems on the sides and the Toyota emblem in the front grill. Check it........





You can see the wife's black 4Runner in the reflection! More pics when I get some good light tomorrow.

Thats hot with blacked out badges on black! I may have to do that!!!

 

Stupid Question, I know you can take those Taco emblems off... but what did you use to put them back on?

 

I used this molding tape for the back of the emblems: http://www.amazon.com/3M-03609NA-2x5-Molding-Tape/dp/B001B0QC3M

First I heated the badges with a hairdryer and used fishing line in a sawing type motion behind the badge until I had worked my way through the entire badge. I then surrounded the badge with 4 strips of blue painters tape, making a rectangle for reference once I was ready to put the badges back on and then pulled the badge off. This left residue and leftover body molding which I removed by hand and then cleaned the surface with windex.

After I painted the badges I simply cut out a bunch of pieces of the molding tape and strategically placed it on the back of the badges.(One side will be sticky and the other side will still have the plastic backing making it easy to handle the badge until you are ready to apply it.) Once I had the area prepped and dry I peeled off all the backing and placed the badges back inside the rectangles I had made with the tape. Once I was satisfied with the placement, I removed the painters tape and cleaned the area. Looks awesome if I might say so myself.

 

If more people are interested in how I did this, I can take pictures of everything I used and post them. Just lemme know.

I got it at Pep Boys, it is the black metallic. If you look at the sticker on the lid it says, Black (M). Almost a perfect match to the BSP, just a smidge darker. It turns out very nice though. I, however, did not use primer. I used a spray product called Adhesive Promoter. I believe both products (paint and adhesive promoter) are dupli-color. Hope that helps.

No worries man, and yes, it was a small spray can.

 

Sooo I did mine today! Look sick, just wondering... did you use a shiny clear coat on top of the metalic black? Yours look more shiny than mine turned out...

 

Nope, just did the adhesion promoter and then about 6 coats of the paint. I let them sit out in the sun and get nice and dry. Then I used some Meguairs polish to buff them down a little and finally hit them with a nice wax. Throw some pics of yours in this thread, I'd like to check 'em out.

 

aight will do! I also moded them and left them as "Taco" might be gay but whatevs! Looks tight
