leaking shock

Okay, so I had my tires replaced today and they told me when I picked the truck up that my right front shock is leaking and that I should check to see if this is covered. I have 23k miles on my truck, would this be covered under the factory warranty? They also told me that my TPMS light would have to stay on because the rims I have don't have the sensor in them, is this true? I got the rims off of a FJ Cruiser that had this.

 

Why wouldn't the shock be covered? If he bought his truck after April of 07 he would still be under the 3 year 36k mi warranty right?

 

Shocks are considered maintenance parts that deteriorate.

 

I would think so. Dont see a reason why it would not be.

Shocks are covered 3 years or 36 thousand miles witch every occurs first.

 

I have no idea about whether or not the shock would be covered... but it should outlast the 3-year, 36kmi warranty, so I'd at least ask.

 

Very true seems the ones I have been replacing lately have all been the TRD Bilstein's.

Toyota excludes normal wear and maintenance items.And on most cars the shocks fall under this category. However, Bilstein, provides a lifetime warranty, http://www.bilsteinus.com/warranty.php So you might have a path to get this corrected.

 

Normal wear and maintenance items are (Tires,Fuses,Brake Pads,Wiper Inserts, Belts, Alignment Correction and so on)
Over my 28 years working for Toyota I have replaced many shocks and struts under there basic 36/36 warranty.

that was why I had the questions, I would have thought they were a wear and tear item too but I will try and let you all know.

 

a leaking shock is NOT normal. I had one replaced on warranty last year. NO issues at all, show up, dealer looks at it, yes it's leaking, order part, come back 3 days later they install.

just to let you all know, I called the dealer and without hesitation, they told me to bring it in and they would replace it. So I took my truck in today and come to find out that the warranty had expired in March. Again, without blinking an eye, the dealership said that they would still replace it at no cost to me. Who says Toyota doesn't care about its customers?

 

Outstanding news that they stepped up and gave you some out of warranty goodwill.

 

I took my truck into pep boys for some tires today and they told me I needed new shocks as they were leaking I declined to have them do it and took a look for myself. The leakage seems to be very little. Should I replace them?
