Traded a Ranger for a 2008 Access Cab last month. I need to carry more than 1 person just a couple times a year, so the DC would be largely unused. I was also underwhelmed by the rear-seat space in a DC.

AC also fits in my garage, DC would have been a problem. Some reviewers on Cars.com say a DC with a long bed is so long it's unwieldy.

Either way, the difference between a 90s Ranger and a newer Tacoma is beyond night and day. You'll love it either way, except for the payments.

i just picked up my first tacoma, i traded a full size 4 door ram for it..

after 2 weeks in my Access cab i have to say it seems as though the roof is to short. and there is a huge blind spot down the left side of the truck.. i wish i would have seen that on my test drive,. i would have bought the double-cab, because of the bigger windows in the back and better visibility.

Glad you found something that suited your needs! Good luck with the Jetta!

Glad you figured it out but... I have to ask you did see the little sticker on the window with EPA Fuel Millage Estimates right? It should have been no surprise....

I'm actually very happy with the MPG I get with the V6 tacoma. My average is 19mpg and my STI I was only getting 17MPG(it was heavily modded though). Good luck with the Jetta though OP. My brother in law has one and absolutely loves it. I think the key to the VW's is getting the ones with the German VIN #'s. I gave up on the VW's myself,(reliability) but I'm still a vw guy at heart. I still own an MK2 golf.

I like the AC cab and ordered it over the DC. I like the long bed and don't like the longer wheel base of the DC long bed. I have a tool box with the removable J hooks for extra storage space but can easily remove if need be. I could not haul my four wheeler in the DC short bed. My wife's GMC Envoy is our people hauler when we need a vehicle for that.

Yeah if you're going to have passengers more than once or twice a month, get the double cab. The access cab space is downright small, even for children...read the reviews and you'll see that mentioned. If you get the DC definitely go for the short box, that's by far the best look. Personally if I had family, I'd get a brand new DC sport, short box, 4x4, speedway blue...mmmm...ok back to reality :)

I have an access cab and went skiing to Tahoe with two people in the back once. By the end there was some whining back there :). However, one person in the back can lay down and be pretty comfortable. I also have found this thing: www.bedryder.com
I thought even in the winter with a camper and back windows open it would be warm enough. Anybody's tried this ?

I brought a DC SB home and the Mrs. suggested I get the AC 'cause of the larger bed size. We decided the DC LB wouldn't work out so good because of the extra length. In my garage I back in from the alley through a 16' door and my tailgate extends out the 8' door on the yard side of the garage. A pic is worth 1k words:

    None yet! It's new!
    My opinion, of course: :)

    1. The DC looks like a family vehicle - something for the kiddies.
    2. Get a long bed so it's a real pickup and not a look-alike.

    Flame suit on.

My girlfriend told me the access cab looked like a dinky ford ranger and to get the bigger one, so I got a doublecab long bed

I have a bedryder in my DC and love it. Can carry 7 people if I need to and completly remove to carry bikes and toys. It works with my bed canopy as well. It is legal to use here in GA as long as you use the harnesses.
