nitro gear only has 4.11s for the rear and 4.10s for the front. would that cause any problems?

Yeah, you need the same ratio front/rear. Otherwise you end up with the axles being powered (in 4x4) at different RPM and eventually something in the driveline is gonna bind...not good. In 2wd, you're still going to have the front and rear tires turning at different rates...may break something, or may just destroy your gas mileage and tires.

    Again: Same ratio front/rear.

...fine for them, if that's what they actually did. I'm not putting mismatched gears in my truck.

4.10 and 4.11 are essentially the same ratio. I would have no problem running them in my truck, even on hard surface.

yeah the only problem is that first gen trucks had smaller wheelbase and were more narrow.
reg cab 1gen had its front and rear almost going on the same path.
Now dbl cab long bad has front wheels in Canada and rear in Mexico while turning. :D

Nitro T8S-410RT-NG - Less than $300. OEM is $800+ and used OEM for around $400 if you want 4.10/.11 gears. A front 4.10/.11 for comparable cost of the rear ring and pinion.

Fit's 3.73 and down carrier. A 'thick' 4.10 for the 8" IFS 05+. No need to replace front carrier.

Anyway, I've been looking at a 4.10 option in the front for awhile without spending $1000 for just the front. I have no need for 4.56 but wanted a tad more gear for slightly heavier tires. I get the cost/benefit analysis and have researched that to no end, don't care. But here is an option that is slightly more fiscally palatable. For $1200 you can get front/rear 4.10/4.11 ring & pinions with install kits (self installed). That's the same price I always found for just the front until recently.

Nitro has had the 4.56 and 4.88 but I could never find the 4.10 front option that wasn't $800+ for ring and pinion due to it being a rare low demand part. T8S-410R-OE is 3.91 and up carrier (factory 4 cylinder 4.10 4x4's i believe), T8S-410RT-NG is 3.73 carrier and down. Passing it along..

Shit bolted onto other shit, and junk.
Just for clarification, 05-14 TRD OFFROAD ONLY (NOT TRD SPORT) runs the 8" ring gear that is somewhat thinner when compared to NON-E-LOCKER differentials (TRD SPORT or NON-TRD OFFROAD MODELS). The NON-TRD OFFROAD models (i.e. those without an e-locker) are also 8" ring gears, but commonly referred to as 8.4" gears. The 4.10/4.11 gears from a 4cyl will work in diffs without e-lockers. However, you will need to use the carrier as well so it is a little more than just plug and play. You typically will have to jump directly from 3.73 to 4.56. The 33" tires have some effect, but more so added weight is a deciding factor (weighted bumpers and other armor), the leverage of a 285/75/16 vs a 255/85/16 although roughly the same tire diameter will vary among Load Range E (10 ply, 55-65lbs per tire) vs Load Range C/D (6-8 ply, 40-50lbs per tire) and the majority of that weight is in the circumference where the radial ply are run.

Bottom line, run your tires with stock gears for two weeks, if it is that annoying then regear to 4.56. You will probably get used to the power adjustment.

And? Why start a new thread on the same 4.10 gear topic? It's...always..this thread is # years old! or use the Search!!...

You added nothing to the conversation, other people who were in this thread or search for 4.10 options may find the information useful when using a search regardless of thread age. I found the thread via search function.

Correct - It is true that if you use the OEM 4.11 gears from a 4 cyl. that a new carrier would be required in the front (for v6 with 3.73 gears). And correct, typically you would have to jump to 4.56 unless you spent a fortune on a front 4.11 ring and pinon and new carrier, used or OEM new.

What I was trying to point out is that a non-OEM 4.11 thick gear is now available that I found which fits the front 2nd gen with the stock 3.73 carrier and is substantially cheaper than the OEM 4.11 gear swapped from 4 cyl. (thinner style you mentioned). No one made a 4.11 thick gear for the front that I could ever locate, until recently, that would be about as plug and play as possible and only require new ring and pinion + setup and use your stock carrier.

Thank you for providing some clarifying information. +1 I've gotten out of hand with my trucks mods that tend to be more performance oriented than rock crawling.

Call ECGS. They recently took factory 4.10s out of my 2014 that only had 17000 miles on them. They swapped the whole clamshell and third and kept my originals.

picked up 4.10 front and rear from a 4cyl 4x4 manual

currently driving a TRD sport mechanical 8.4 LSD 4x4, 6MT

someone said the whole front diff on a 4cyl (that I have gears from) is different. That you cannot simply put those front gears into another Tacoma.
Is that really true? Anyone have confirmation?

Also heard TRD OR’s had 4.10.

I always thought that all 4x4 2nd gen front diffs (IFS clamshell) were otherwise the same…

if not, maybe time to hunt for a whole 4cyl front diff to bolt in (if it’s compatible) and resell these front gears

got them hoping to DIY install with some master install kits (bearings shims etc) to regear 3.73—>4.10 to deal with the power and MPG loss I got from replacing bald 31’s (265 70 17) with falken wildpeak load e 33 tall skinny 255/80r17
