10 Double Cab, will a dirt bike fit with the gate down etc?

I just bought a 10 double cab with the short bed. I am going to Moab later today with my ktm and wondering if it will be ok to haul it with my new truck. There are no mods at all (no extra D-rings etc). I was thinking that hauling will save gas over trailering my bike. Does anyone out there in Tacoma Land haul their dirt bikes in their short box beds? I know the gate will need to support the rear tire etc and I would strap across the back and use the rail cleats to secure the bike. IYO will it work.

Thanks in advance.

Have you guys gotten any bend in your tailgate from doing that? I ride a YZ450, and my wife rides a CRF250X, so that is about 500 lbs between the two of them...heard that much weight will bend the tailgate, as the rear wheels will sit right in the tail gate?!

I have been lucky so far with my 07 and it has not bent. I have bikes in the bed just about every weekend that I can get out. I have been thinking about reinforcing it though.

no problem with mine, and that includes my fat ass on the tailgate when unloading it. In fact my son both bikes and I have been on the tailgate a fdw times with no problems. Now with that said I am sure it fill fold on me this weekend.

my tailgate bent when i dropped the bike on it, but that was my 08 X-runner, they fixed my tailgate for free. I dropped the bike again on my 10 and it did not bend at all. There is very little weight on the back tire when its tied down, you can lift the bike very easily. Think about how much weight there is, 200lb bike, half on the tailgate. If it bent that easy, it'd bend every time you stepped on it.
