Is there an alternative to the Rear TSB?

I got an 06 and just picked up a boat. The truck is sitting on the bump stops and is very bouncy. Can't get the tsb since im out of warranty. Is there aftermarket parts I could get? Im sure dealer wants an arm n leg for these parts. I could install them myself

 

an add a leaf (AAL), helper springs or air bags

 

I had the same problem with my boat even after the TSB. I now have both air bags and the TSB and if I would have tried the airbags first I never would have messed with the TSB. Air bags are the way to go in my opinion.

 

You can do an AAL from toyteclifts.com but best bet since you have a boat would be some airbags

 

I am confused why would airbags be an acceptable solution for a truck to tow a boat? Would replacing the crappy stock springs with OME springs be the "correct long term" solution?

 

The best thing about the air bags is they are adjustable to what you will be hauling/towing. I keep about 5-10 psi in mine at all times when not loaded and the ride isn't affected and there is no chance of bottoming out. I don't reccomend this, but if you pumped them up to 80-100 psi you could haul way more than your truck is rated for with no sagging.

 

Toytec has an AAL specifically for the trucks with TSB leaf springs. Its what I got, and from what I've been told, its basically the same as what the dealership would install. Cost me about $90 shipped for a pair, had them installed myself in 3ish hours.

Check out timbrens, super cheap, super easy to install, and you only use them when you need them.

 

i might just use both the AAL and timbrens

 

how much are airbags and what kind

 

i went down to advance auto parts and picked up a spring helpers for 25 bucks and they wrok pretty good but i dont pull anything so idk how much they help with higher loads.

 

I just bought the Firestone Ride Rites at Truckaddons.com for $260 plus 10 percent off and free shipping. Haven't installed them yet. They mount on top of the leaf spring over the axle and you have to cut off the bump stops. Airlift has air bags that mount on the leafs springs, but I think they cost a little more. Search both of these on the forum and you'll get a better idea.

 

As has been posted so much before... RIDE RITE AIR SPRINGS (BAGS) and Bilstein 5100s in the back... Here is my '05:

 

Do not inflate them that much for risk of breaking you axle... Too much air/ lift changes the rear suspention geometry and stresses the axle. Service tech at Toyota Carlsbad has seen it happen.

The most I ever put in my Ride Rites was 45 psi... with a heavy load in back, and the truck remained high in back. With no load, I kept them at 15 psi. It doesn't talke much to lift the back and stop the bottoming out... You never need to get near the max. inflation amount, and shouldn't!
