No, no one has ever modified the stock system in anyway shape or form. I know I certainly haven't lol

Sarcasm aside, what are you wanting to get out of the system? What does it lack that you'd hope to fix with aftermarket equipment?

PS: You might want to get this thread moved.

Hunter, did the crutchfield stereo install the same as the factory unit? I mean, did you have to modify the center console? I want a better sounding stereo too but I don't want to cut up the console if I don't have to.

I was pretty underwhelmed with the base stereo. Not that I was expecting much. Although just adding an 8" sub has made it sufficient for me. I'm no audiophile.

Ha ha, these guys are yankin yer chain, this site is all about mods, check the audio section and maybe have this thread moved there. I agree that the sounds not great in the base systems, but I haven't done anything about it yet

Don't worry going through the same ordeal. I didn't think the stocker speakers were all that bad personally. I came from a 99 camaro with a custom box wit 2 12" kicker subs and aftermarket speakers in it. I think it hits pretty decent if thats what your going for. But i will have to agree, i plan to upgrade the HU the second wkd of may with a pioneer double-din wit nav!! Also i will be putting in a custom made box with 1 12" kicker L7 and a 750.1 amp from kicker. I have the access cab also, so i was having trouble with what i was needing to do with the whole system. But check out a couple of the links they posted thats what helped me out a lot.

Personally, I think the quickest way to upgrade the sound is to swap the headunit for something with more features, power, and sound tweaking ability. New speakers will help if you're running a stock deck but they'll need a separate amp to sound their best.
