Safety recall notice?

This is what they did to my wife's Camry so I am sure this will be pretty similar when they do the Tacomas.

1st-Take gas pedal out
2nd- Put a template on the gas pedal and trace how much they will need to cut off the bottom.
3rd-Put in a vice and use a hack saw to cut off about 3/4 inch off the bottom of the pedal. They they use a sander to smooth out any rough edges. Looks factory
4th-Take up carpet and remove the tibia pad and replace it with one that is not as thick. They tape the new one back down with double sided tape and gorilla tape.
5th-Vacuum out under carpet, put carpet back and vacuum there too. Make sure both hooks are in place and put mat back in place.

I am pretty sure that is what they will do with the Tacomas, they just don't have a template yet.

 

I got the notice last year...still haven't heard back from them for the fix (if they even know what the problem is yet.) I think their waiting for more recall issues to surface so they can lump them altogether. Maybe since they forgot how to do vehicle testing before production their waiting for Consumer Reports to do it for them.

 

i got a letter but when i bought my truck it did not have any mats in it

I have a 2006 with mats, but the damn car wash jerks tore both of my floor hooks out over time, one at a time. I live dangerously with a floating floor mat, but I'm not ruining my carpet to save my own life LOL! Hmmm, maybe with the recall I'll be able to get my hooks replaced for free (carpet where grommets were are all worn out so maybe a new carpet kit?!) and then I'll just put WeatherTechs in.

 

I have an 05 that has the same drive by wire pedal as the newer trucks and they have not mentioned anything about my pedal. I also have thick rubber floor mats on top of the factory mats and no issues here.

 

I've got a 06 and got the notice.

 

When I bought my 06 I checked and The Totota people told me that there were no recalls for the rig. that was just a month ago.

 

When was the fix available for your wife's Camry? I am just trying to estimate as to when the fix will be available for the Tacomas.

 

I got a recall letter about the front drive shaft in my 2010. Had it checked out, all was ok.

 

I heard all they are doing is a flash of the computer so if you push the brake and gas pedals at the same time the engine will go to idle.

 

Talked to my dealer today....the fix will comprise of:

- pedal reconfiguration
- removal of some carpet under padding
- new flash for the brake/gas override

As soon as the remedy is available at the dealers, can someone please post it here?
