I can buy a set of tires with 3000 miles on them. Off a Jeep and in excellent condition and great price. Are there any negatives to this?? Thanks for any advice.:)

I bought a set of BFG AT's off a guy. Had about 3/4 tread left.

One tire had been plugged, but it holds air just fine.

Look for dry rot, cracking, slashes, even wear on the tire and even wear on all the tires as a comparison. And how many times it's been plugged.

Other than that, go for it. I don't regret my purchase at all. Saved me $600 bucks.

Also look for a date code on them to see the actual age on the tires.

This tire was made in the 3rd week of 2004.

    ^^^^^^
You learn something every day! I never new what those numbers were on tires.
Thanks to everyone for the advice!!! Once I check em in person I think I will go for it. 1/2 price with 3000 miles is too good to turn down.

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
i paid $35 a piece for my 315/70/17 BFG AT's that were all between 30-40% on em...i'm going to try to find me a set of MTs in better shape, but still used. 3k miles isnt shit, as long as they are in good shape

I know, they had it in some news story a few years ago for one of the tire shops in town selling really old tires. I immediately went outside just to see when my tires were made because I had just bought new tires for my bronco.
