I'm getting an E-Locker!

I'm really excited about my most recent purchase. I found an '08 TRD OR Rear Axle Assy (drum-to-drum) w/Locker complete with actuator and harnesses with only 10k miles on it for $900.

Next, I found the appropriate 4WD Controller ECU on eBay for only $75. This provides OEM integration with the existing 4WD control. Finally, I ordered a new OEM "RR Diff Lock" switch for $50 online.

Though I don't anticipate using this capability frequently, it will provide peace of mind to know it's there when & if I do need it.

This is probably the most comprehensive project I've taken on thus far. Especially considering all the "side jobs" required: rear brake job, bleeding lines, R-diff oil change, wiring, etc. I'm looking forward to it!

Incidently, has anybody defeated the 4-Lo pre-requisite on a 2nd Gen.?

Would this even be a worth-while mod?

Apparently, 2nd Gen. PreRunners can only be locked if < 5mph. True?

Hello I have a 2005 4WD 6 Speed Duble Cab Tacoma TRD Off Road with a RR Diff Locker and I wonder when I see your post, Can I use the locker in 2WD? and second question, Can I use the RR Diff Lock in 4Hi?, Best regards and I please help me out with this.

Search and you'll find the answer. You cannot do it now, but you can mod your truck and then it will be possible.

 

that was the one in the Hampton roads (IIRC) Craigslist? Or maybe I saw it here on TW.. I forget. Good catch!

 

If only you knew. It's good to use in the sand in 4hi. It's helpful in the super soft stuff when you stop and you want to get started again and you aren't neccesarily going slow. Its also just fun to play around with in 2wd.

I forgot to mention it's also good at the boat ramp where 4x4 can't be used because you're on asphalt.

 

you can use 4x4 on asphalt, especially on wet asphalt.

 

I need to make a sharp turn immediatly after the ramp. I would never personally use mine on asphalt but that should be debated elsewhere I don't want to steer this off topic anymore than I already have

 

I agree with avoiding sharp turns in 4x4 on asphalt
But then again i wouldnt use the locker in the same sistuation either.
