I have an interesting problem. After my truck warms up and I driven a couple of miles, the radio dies, air bag light comes on, the air bag notice under the radio goes to off, and the keyless entry stops working. After is sites 8 hours, everything works again until the truck warms back up. What do all these items hang off of, that at operating temperature would fail.

My only guess would be that your alternater is going bad. I had similar things happen to other vehicles, mainly the majority of the dash board lights come on 1 at a time...

Again, I have not experienced this problem with my Tacoma, but that would be my best guess...

Sorry appears I didn't update my profile well enough. I actually have a 2007 double cab 4*4. I would take it to the stealership, but as their name implies they will charge 500 bones to fix a problem and not really fix it at all.

It sounds electrical to me. I would meticuliously inspect all fuses and look for shorts. Check the engine junction block and under the driver side dash lower finish panel.

The alternator theory may it too. There is a diagnostic procedure to check it...

You might also try messing with your ignition switch. Since it supplies the on/off signal for all the electrical things in your truck. It may be internally shorted and only acts up when warm. After it sits off for a while the internal electrical components cool down and then are back to normal. A simple test would be to bang on the steering column and see if anything changes. Just trying to give you another idea. An alternator/battery problem could be the cause as well (as stated above). Hope this helps.

First month of ownership... This month I'm removing front air dam, and also Rhino lining the bed.
My guess is a wiring fault of some kind...

What do you mean by"the radio dies"? Does it totally stop working or does just the display disappear?

The radio illumination is powered off the taillight circuit. A wiring fault at either the steering column (combination switch; spiral cable) or in the taillights might explain some sort of cross-circuit weirdness.

Here's what I suggest, to try and narrow down the possibilities ....

    (1) Check the situation with both the lights on and the lights off.

    (2) Check the situation by NOT using any turn signals while driving.

    (3) Check the behavior of the turn signals *and* the hazard flashers with the radio turned off and again with the radio turned on.

... report back with the results.

The radio completely dies. It will not turn back on after it goes out.

    1. Situation is the same with lights on or off.

    2. I will try the turn signal thing today and update here.

    3. same here.

I agree, start by replacing the fuse to the alternator, even if it looks to be fine. Check your grounds also. Should be a block to firewall and cab to frame ground.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
The only thing these systems seem to have in common is the alternator/battery. I would also have the alternator checked (after it is warmed up). Also, check your battery connections for corrosion and tightness.

Ok so I drove to work without blinkers (scary shit in downtown atlanta) no problems what so ever. Everything was good. Pull into my parking garage and hit the reading land and bamm it happens. Radio dies (radio and light), air bag light on, airbag message says air bags off. So this is not heat related. It must be a ground somewhere.

Did it go back to normal when you turned the lamp off?

It did not. The lamp itself did not come on at all. FYI. I'll try it again on the way home.

Go get the alternator and battery tested.

My guess is the battery might be on its last leg. My mom's BMW X3 did the same thing last year. Ended up being the battery.

This might be related, and it might not. I can't figure out where the common point is for all this mess except for the battery/alternator. I did move a bad relay that was for the A/F heater to the fog lamp relay. I thought that could be it so moved it again to the horn relay. Could power pass through all these pass with each other, so one relay in the group have an affect on the entire system?

And before people say why not just buy a new relay. I have one ordered. Seems everywhere I go its special order.

When the radio dies, try turning the truck off for a couple of minutes, then start it back up. Is the radio working again? A lot of times at work when the operators start playing mechanic and doing the "musical chairs dance" with the relays, they don't realize that just because the relay looks the same as the one next to it, it is not. Check the wiring diagram on the sides of the relays, maybe one is mixed up. Alternator and battery checks are cheap and easy, and a good place to start with any electrical fault.
