+1. The nut on the end is great. I like the air filters too, but I've used them in several vehicles and never noticed a difference in performance. They seem like a quality product, though.

    So I own a 2012 dc trd4x4.
I was interested in the air filter due to the fact that Toyota doesn't make a cold air intake for this year. I did some digging and an air filter was my next option cause my trick is still under warranty and I did not wanna jeopardize that. (I don't have any mechanical experience, just done basic stuff)

K&N air filter works great. I felt a slight difference in the gas pedal response and a little in gas mileage.
Clean it every 5000 miles and also you MAF sensor.
As far as warranty issues, I talked to several Toyota guys and they did not recommend the TRD air filter. I guess it depends on the guy working on your truck. I decided to say fuck it, it's just a filter and I might just replace it with stock if I have to take it in.

They work good enough that K&N had a class action filed against them for false advertising

    beautiful thread dig.

FYI the stock air intake is a cold air intake and filters better than the KnN filter... also there are no gains as far as performance on a naturally aspirated motor.

K&N air filters are what Monster cables are to the audio business. Overpriced, over advertised merchandise.

Monster cables...... I remember way back in the day taking a season gig at the local Circuit City to make some extra Christmas cash. I worked in the home theater department and the ONLY training I received was.
    A) How to sell Monster brand cables
    B) How to sell warranties

These may be the worst snake oil products you can buy.

Anyhow, back on track. I had a K&N cone filter on my first gen. It tripped the CEL shortly after the install due to using too much oil. It sounded cool but offered no gains to the butt dyno or MPG. I wouldn't do it again

I ran a K&N filter on my truck back in the day. Immediately went back to paper. If you offroad that oiled filter gets so gunked up its ridiculous. If you want a reusable filter for your offroad truck, you're better off vacuuming your stock filter. If your taco is a track only car, throw a k&N on there.

Pure bull right there. At 50K your truck would barely be breathing. I ran one on my 4 Runner and had to clean it often, because it looked like a piece of charcoal after 8 to 10K.

I own one and its been in 3 Tacomas so far, it currently has 195,000 miles on it. It served its main purpose, saved me money on replacement filters. At almost 200,000 miles, I didn't have to buy probably 10-15 filters.

+1 on saving your old filter, i do the same. Clean it and let it sit overnight before oiling it and reinstalling it.

It's nice that the recharger kit came down in price, it used to be $20 or more.

Do not have link. It was in a magazine. Maybe Car & Driver I read it while sitting in the dentist office and they have a lot of magazines.

    (Update)
I dig the filter. Definitely no horsepower gains but I'm definitely getting a little better gas mileage. I know that for sure. I drive about the same distance everyday, use only chevron gas, and I haven't been punching the gas, or getting in the pedal a whole lot. Now I get just over 150 miles on half a tank. Yayy!!

I probably will switch to the factory filter if I go off-roading cause it makes sense that oil and dirt don't mix well.

Other then that.....if you guys don't wanna spend money everytime you need to change it. I recommend buying this filter. AND SAVE YOUR FACTORY ONE!

I wouldn't listen to the haters on this post, I'd say it's a preference thing at this point.

Maybe 'cause there is no link, or maybe you misread the article. Do a google (or any search engine) search. A "class" action lawsuit would be "really" big news against a, high profile, multi-million dollar, aftermarket dominant, sales and manufacturing company.

ATV trail dents, many, many lights, 4-6 beer cans.
Pulled a K&N filter out of my brothers Pathfinder back in February, we were troubleshooting an idling issue that turned out to be plug leads, the engine ran noticeably smoother with a replacement OEM filter once we pulled the K&N, he had it on for about 15000 km and the MAF was black as sh*t on a truck that was primarily driven on wet pavement roads.

To each their own, but if I need to clean my MAF every 2nd oil change, give me OEM.

I did not misread the article. Use the filter if you wish. I will not. I do not believe any of their claims of improved MPGs or power.

Whether you or I use or not, or believe their marketing hype or not, wasn't the point, you cited as "fact", a class action suit against K&N that you can't support.

You a member of the K&N fan club or something? Believe it or not I don't really give a shit. I know what I read. Maybe the suit was dropped or settled out of court. A lot of them are. I do not believe the numbers they were advertising but maybe you do.
