The 1/2 inch drive is more useful. Both is best.

Both, but if you have to pick one, 50 - 250lb 1/2" drive

Things like the cv axle nut, upper ball joint nut on SPCs, carrier bearing stake nut etc require upwards of 150 - 170ft lbs.

I have the Pittsburgh 20-150ft/lb 1/2" drive and a Tekton that goes up to 250. Both are inexpensive and have served me very well

Hell yeah! Thanks guys! I’m not trying to take a chance so I’m sending it with a torque wrench for the bigger things I’ll be doing with the truck ‍♂️

Unless your putting together engine internal, then no. The rest of these dorks just love to overly complicate bolts.

Matco makes a torque adapter. Bta150 $144 3/8 drive, with a good range of 10-150 ft lb. That’ll get you low enough to do spark plugs and high enough to do lug nuts. Close as it may get for one to do it all. Also a 1/2 drive cta250, $167, 10-250 ft lb. Prices are from last year so they may have changed.

I own 2 precision instruments torque wrenches, and very rarely ever use them. If I'm doing a head gasket, I definetly use them. Otherwise they sit in their cases.

    And eventually I got a 5-70 ft/lb.

Yeah I mean...I’m somewhat new to working underneath my truck and don’t wanna have shit falling off one day when I’m driving so I’d rather be safe than sorry I guess...

Regardless of which size you go with, don't forget to invest in some lubricant as well. I've used ARP assembly lube for years, and I don't use my TW without it.....

It’s all a learning experience for me, maybe I won’t use it all that much but peace of mind is good by me

My uncle Pete was an old school auto mechanic who never relied on a torque wrench for anything. Said if you wasn't working on jets, airplanes or rockets, it was a tool designed to wring cash outta folk who can't grasp the physics of fastening things.

I'd say if you're fastening to aluminum or working with torque-to-yield fasteners a torque wrench is a must. I personally have three 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" drives and I use them, maybe not 100% of the time, but they do get used on critical fasteners. I've also found called out torque spec errors a couple of times.

I know I don't need to say it because everyone knows this, but I'll say it anyway. :D

Every torque wrench needs a buddy. Torque for tightening things, breaker bar for loosening things. Never loosen with the torque wrench.

Just another thing I learned the hard way. :anonymous::anonymous:

I like to tighten every fastener to the listed torque spec. Tight is tight but the click helps me sleep at night.
