DIY Washable Cabin Air Filter

Nice....just found out the other day that I don't even have one installed!! Good Timing...

 

I would personally check this but i havent seen my truck in a few months because im deployed. But can you even do this with the 05's i know that the filter is not installed on the 05's but can you install one?

This is on my soon to do project too. This, painting the 4x4 out on my mud flaps, and getting my @#(*&$ subwoofer back in and running.

 

Thanks for the thread- another win on the forum. I did mine a little different- bought the "cut to fit" activated charcoal filter, did the 8" square, and used a duct tape trim and hot glue to stabilize the filter element. It oughta last awhile, and since I bought the 25x 20 filter, I have enough mat'l for another 5 filters.

 

A zip tie would do the same as the center rivet and is adjustible!

 

just got the filter in today from logic source. 2 mins to install lol. fyi. but if i have time i'll upgrade to the custom made filter

 

Just finished this. Nice project, simple enough, just make sure your end result is 8x8" exactly. I cut the center grid 8", but the frame adds a slight amount. Easy enough to adjust and redo however.

Looks like a great idea! I'll be looking at Home Depot for the kit. Also I did not notice anyone mention it, so here's a little note: After I do the Mod you have given us, I am going to put a bounce dryer sheet on the top of it to both add a little fragrence and it will help filter out the smaller stuff. You don't want to put it on top you want to put it as the bottom layer before the screen. Not a lot of air can get threw those things. It will plug up fast of it's on the top. I never used that center fastener. I just cut a 8X8 piece out of the side so my filter pack can come completely apart. Why I did that is I added a bottom Hepa fine filter there. It's just disposable. Got miles of it here for computers. Not worth washing.

Yes you can put it in the bottom above the bottom screen. But if you just thinking of trowing it in there and not actually using it as part of the filter then of course it would have to go on top,

Well, I finally got around to measuring the filter (I was out there rotating my tires since it was time and BTW I hit 100K miles yesterday!).

Several of you noted that you had to cut down the grid to have the finished product be 8 x 8 inches. My finished filter measures 8 1/8 inches across each side near each corner. So we all must have different size air boxes!

I added an edit in the first post to warn people about the differences. Hopefully, that will save others some time.

 

Finally did it for my 08.

Only issue was a trial and error to get it into the box itself but overall very nice and easy.

Got the kit at Lowes, as they were closer, cost $18 and tax.

One stupid question, which side goes toward the fan?

 

If you didn't add layers it probably does not matter. I think the filter we have all be cutting up is symmetric. Grid, plastic fine layer, foam, plastic fine layer, grid.

I added one extra layer on mine. A hepa fine filter so mine has to go in one way only, hepa down.

The unfiltered air comes in from the top.

 

im confused does this work or does it not for the 05 tacos?
