Truck pulling to left while braking?

So here lately my truck's been pulling to the left when i apply the brakes. I'm not sure what's causing it. The truck drives straight any other time. I looked under the truck and saw some grease and dirt on the tie rod boot. Could this be whats causing the pulling? Any advise is appreciated.

 

Id go get the alignment checked.

 

Sounds like the brakes are grabbing unevenly...check your lines and fluid, take a look at the pads, and rotors as well...while you've got the tires off, pump the brakes a few times and watch caliper engagement to ensure all is well.

Good idea to check everything on the rear drums as well.

Edit: Also, check your cylinders. If it's one sided, it's probably not the master cyl.

Warped rotor or alignment could be off..my wifes car was doing this awhile back

 

Fluid level could be good in the reservoir but if you have a jammed/leaking cylinder then that wouldn't be a tell.

Like I said, start by verifying that the brakes are functioning properly and go from there.

I'd be surprised if one brake was more sensitive than the others, but it's possible (sticky cylinder reducing caliper travel, etc.)

 

Oddly enough, when mine was brand new, it pulled to the right when stopping, and pulled hard. Turned out the dealership overinflated the tires - 44psi all around. First thing, check your tire pressure.

 

Happen to me with my dodge.
$85 2 calipers, some brake fluid and about 3 hours to complete the job (1st time doing myself)
after that no more grabbing, no more pulling.
Stealership will change 5-800 to do such a job

 

Best indicator would be pad thickness and after a drive and hitting the brakes. Check to see if u feel any heat radiating off the rotors. Don't touch cuz you will burn yourself.

 

My truck drives dead straight. Could it still be an alignment problem? My tire pressure is perfect. My truck still has the original brakes(18,150miles).

 

Check for leaks.

Oh man, I was having the same problem for about a week a while back. The truck kept veering left EVERY time I braked ,it turns out my left front tire was about 15 psi lower than it should have been.

Well from what you stated it sounds like that is not the problem.

Have you found out what it is?

 

did you check your tire pressures? i've had trucks that has had the same issue and it was just tire pressure.

 

Sounds like a caliper issue.

You could have one caliper that is not functioning correctly. Either the left one won't retract or the right one won't engage. I'll bet if you look at you front brake pads they haven't worn at the same rate from side to side. You said the fluid level looks fine so that should rule out a leaking wheel cylinder or caliper. Is this just under hard braking or any braking? If just under hard braking check the back brakes. Also check your shocks for leaks.

Deff a caliper issue dude sounds like one side is froze. pretty common on the 2nd gen tacomas I use to be a toyota tech for 3 yrs I have seen more than a few with that problem. hope that helps
