Question about the Computers in our trucks.

Well i went to go get my inspection done yesterday after i went and bought a new battery for my truck. well turns out the computer hasn't had time to reset yet.

Does anyone know how long or how many miles it take for the computer to reset?

 

should be no longer than 15 minutes

 

I think it's not a reset that's required, but miles or hours to start logging the emissions data. I had the same problem a couple years ago. Had to drive around for a while, but I can't remember the duration. It's not a set number.

 

Hey, same thing happened to my Corolla. The DEQ guy said two days worth of driving both city and highway. Then you're good to go!

 

normally around 60 miles is a good estimate

 

Well i've only driven like 25 miles so guess im off to the interstate to get in another 25 haha

 

ok so i've never had to deal with emissions testing. so i'm gonna be dumb for a minute. does the truck run in a way that it won't pass the test till it is reset?

Emissions testing of newer vehicles is somewhat of a rip-off scheme as the "test," which you pay for, consists entirely of your vehicle telling the emissions tech whether its polluting or not.

 

I dunno about toyotas but in my honda I had, it wasn't about how many miles you drove. It was based on the warm up cool/cool off cycle. Then from that point it was like 4-5 (can't remember the number) cycles before it was ready. Some systems were "ready" sooner than others. Generally the EVAP system was always the last to become "ready". One cycle counted as reaching full operating temp, then a complete cool down.
