A/C Compressor Drag on engine

Newbie to taco's and tacoworld here I'm likin' all the brotherly love I read and see getting addicted to tweakin' my ride!

Just bought an 06, TRD, 44k, 2WD, crew cab, SB ..

Question:

- Seems there is a significan drag when you press the AC compressor button. It's almost like hitting a 40mph headwind. Could this be some sort of vacuum issue or something? I know this is common with most auto's, but seems excessive.

I get the same thing s o m e t i m e s when I just let off the accelerator without the AC being on.

is this a 4cyl or a 6?

 

^ its a 06 dcab....pretty sure v6

only 1st gens had a dcab 4 banger

 

Yeah, my truck acts the same way and I have seen others post the same thing. I took my truck in to get it checked out back in 05, they said the A/C compressor looked fine, along with everything else. I found the best thing to do is to turn it on when you get over 50 MPH or so or a higher RPM.
So I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Definitely normal. I have an electric fan and get the same reaction when the fan kicks on. Seems the AC and alternator startups drag on the engine more than vehicles I've had in the past.

 

There's a mod to disable the automatic compressor on defrost.
Looks simple and worthwhile.
