Should I wax or not?

So the truck is still pretty new, born just a few months ago. I clean her often but I dont know if I need to wax it or not. How often should I? And also is it safe to use orbital buffer?

Go for it! Not sure about the orbital buffer, but waxing is fine.

 

its recommended you wait 6 months before waxing.

and one wax a month should be good. unless you have a color that oxidizes faster i.e. speedway blue...

but you will be good with once a month and i use a orbital buffer. no problems with it.

I did a polish on my truck when it was 1 to 2 months old. I use a random orbital buffer with a pad that has no cutting value and a polish that has a very minimal abrasive rating. I use this combo as a final polish step.

I also sealed with a sealant and topped with two coats of a hybrid wax that contains a sealant. Lasted very well the entire winter.

 

i'd definitely go ahead and wash/claybar/polish/wax in that order....get any and all paint contaminents out of the way. alot of shit you cant really see gets on your truck when its waiting to be bought and in transit. it wont hurt the paint.....its already cured.

 

I already got some professional detail pads but what wax is best, there are so many brands!!!

 

store bought........meguiars or mothers are fine. i like eagle one nanowax myself.

My husband uses the orbital buffer - it goes soooo much faster.
I've never done it myself, but I would think the pads that you use and the applied pressure makes or breaks the experience.

My husband is good with the waxing (I hate doing it). We have a 'deal' going on. He waxes my truck and I mow the lawn for him.

My dealer told me to wait a year before I wax my truck. I got on here and asked about that and everyone said that was bad advice. I went ahead and waxed it.

 

I use McGuires Cleaner/Wax. Easy on, easy off, and lasts several months. JMO.

 

Where is this recommendation?? New car paint is cured at the factory and can be waxed right away. Waxing once a month is overkill unless your in an extremely brutal environment.

Thats not true. You can wax upon taking delivery if you'd like.

 

Yes, safe to wax and yes, safe to use an orbital. Carnaubas typically only last 4-6 weeks, so plan on waxing on that interval. Polymer sealants can last upwards of 12-15 weeks. Both provide a slightly different appearance though

 

I was my truck about every 6 months now, once before winter and once before summer.

Though, I would recommend doing it much more frequently, as I will start to do. Toyota paint isn't exactly the highest of quality and I can really tell the wax is gone when I go and apply some.

I do the car and truck, snowblow/shovel/roof rake/ice and snow removal in the winter.

I have worked at several car dealerships and we waxed new cars right off the truck. Wont hurt anything unless the paint is not cured, but you can be assured that any new car today, will have paint cured before it leaves factory.

I wax my truck about every 3-4th washing, once you feel the smoothness of the paint starts to fade and water doesnt bead off it as well. I clay bar 2-3 times a year to keep paint clear, and I park outside without a car port. I use the Meguiars Hi tech yellow wax 26 and am happy with it, just keep it off the black plastic, for that I treat it with mothers back to black before I wax to help keep wax from sticking to it if I miss and keeps the trim looking sharp. Just my humble .02
