Brake squeak!!!! Help!!!

ok so i changed my front brakes due to squealing. i did that no problem, well i still heard a squeal and i said ok ill clean my drums... well now its even worse when im driving around and slowly push apply the brakes and up what do you know i have the squeal. PLEASE HELP! i put Wagner ThermoQuiet pads on the front so i know its not them. how much should the rear pads rub the drum to be fully adjusted???

 

My dads silverado has the same problem im curious as well.

 

your front brakes were probably never the problem, it was only your back ones.

My rear brakes constantly squealed and it was the worst when backing up. I would clean the drum out and the squealing came back like a week later. I changed the rear shoes to to Wanger Thermoquiet and no more squealing. I'm still on my stock brake pads in front.

I adjusted the rear brakes until there was a slight drag when turning the wheel.

 

thanks for the insight... i will prolly try to adjust them but do you have to do the same amount of adjusting to both wheels or is it untill they are good and it doesnt matter how much one has than the other?

 

are you sure its comming from the front?

Ive had to take fine sandpaper to new pads before...just to wear down whatever edge was on there from the factory...I have no idea why it worked, but some old mechanic told me to do it and it worked...Granted, it was back in 98 or 99 on my old ford ranger, but it quieted them down.

havent had the issue with any other vehicle since then though.

 

squealing squealing squealing, my 2002 squeals like a pig, I took the drum off and the inside is shinny like a mirror and the pads looks brand new, I use the ebrake all the time and djust it as tight as I can get it before I put the drum back, could it be due to cheap $13.45 brake shoes from autozone? I am thinking maybe the last owner cheaped out? Or could it be the drum needs to be replaced ? maybe it is too thin? Any thoughts on what shoes/drums are the best?

My drums were squealing to, you could really hear in when I opened the rear slider window.....so I thought. Checked them out, there was plenty of pad left Then, I figured out it was my damn leaf springs. I thought for sure it was the brakes, as I only heard it while applying the brakes at stops and backing up....never really on bumps n such. Sprayed some WD on the leafs, no more squeal! Been working now with one application for two weeks.
Just a thought of what it might be.....

 

how do you adjust the rear drums or clean them?????
