Best Buy alarm installation help...

Has anyone ever had Best Buy install their car alarm? They offer a decent deal and there are a few close by. The shops around here are just punk kids and I dunno if I can trust them. I feel like I would have better luck going back to Best Buy with any problems. They are a bigger corporation with more avenues to seek if I have any trouble. Just trying to get opinions or reviews of the quality of work. Thanks guys!

i used to work for circuit city ad best buy is very similar. We never really had any issues with alarms because we did it the right way, as far as wire ties, using appropriate fuses and triggers. they should be good enough. as long as the alarm is wired in correctly and the wires and brain are tied in to look like nothing was done it should be good.

 

That's what I am hoping for. In life though, this isn't always true. Every job should always be done the right way, but that is hardly the case. If they do a good job, great, but you never know with any company. Thanks for your input.

 

Get it done by a custom shop. Like a previous post said, 300$ is about average. Depending on the alarm.

 

I got a package installed on my truck: double din DVD player, bluetooth, back up cam, alarm w/ paging and remote start for close to a grand. I went to the independent shop who did the work cuz I had an issue w/ the remote for the alarm....they went out of business!! so from now on, I"m sticking w/ established businesses and I think you should do the same. Not sure if you have an "Ultimate Electronics" in your area but their ads say they will beat best buy's and walmart's prices...just some food for thought.

Thanks. Kinda my thoughts too. Best Buy isn't going out of business any time soon. The local shops around here all seem pretty shady. Gang banger looking fools and all their buddies hangin out in the shop. Last thing I wanna do is give them my address, credit card number, and access to my truck. I will have to check a few more places out, thanks for the input.

 

That's the good thing about using BB, you have the whole company behind you. But I think you'll find a good reputable shop will do it better and cheaper.

^That's a good point however it was BB that put CC out of business.

 

It all depends on the actual person who is doing the work. There are knowledgeable folks at most shops and chain stores, and there are hacks also.

If it were me, I would want to talk to the person who will be doing the work. I would not be able to drop off my truck and have it disappear into the shop with some unknown guy working on it.

Go down there and ask to talk to an installer. Ask plenty of questions. If he keeps saying things like "no problem bro, I do this all the time" instead of answering your questions in detail, go somewhere else. Listen to your gut feeling, it is usually correct.

 

i have seen some of the work that my local best buy puts out.....ehhh. not so impressed!
i do all my own work, as i used to be an installer myself. my only suggestion to you is, if it were me i would go to the most well known car stereo shop...not best buy. best buy managers dont really know what to look for when hiring an installer.

Am not impressed with they way they installed mine. A week after I got it done the box with all the wires hooked up to it fell on my foot while I was driving. They didn't secure it to anything just shoved it above the pedals! the instalation quality was lazy at best.

 

I would NEVER trust best buy with my truck. I do custom car audio and I end up fixing a lot of their mistakes when people bring their cars to me. I've never heard a good thing about them but I've heard dozens of bad. I would stick with a car audio shop

My brother is an car audio installer for Best Buy and he does some awsome work. Not sure if all stores do but his guys are all certified and really take there work serious.. I would trust them, worst case they have a claims process if there is any scratches or damage done and my bro says they pay out on almost very claim (although there are only few)..

The good thing about Best Buy is they pay there installers much better wages than there sales team.. This helps assure guys take there job serious..
