Warning Lights: ABS + Brakes (?)

Folks--

2005 4wd 4cyl/5sp with 96k (no lift, nothin' fancy) and I've had these two warning lights come on simeltaneously twice now. The first time it was in pouring rain, the following day (after drying out?) the lights returned to normal after driving 1/4 mile. The second time I was going through a bit of a ditch (suspension somewhat flexed) and thus far, the lights remain on. And I'v confirmed that I do not have ABS at present.

I've browsed through the forums and not seen any suggestions that might be helpful for this scenario; any suggestions? Thanks!!!

 

Thanks, but (sadly) the fluid level is good as are fuses...

 

If the ABS light is on, then it's a malfunction in the brake system. The owners manual should clarify this for you. My owners manual states this in the back, but I have a 2009 which is different from yours.

 

Unfortunately, teh manual tells you to 'immediately stop and call Toyota dealer.' So...I thought I'd see if the forums had suggestions...

 

From reading some technical manuals I can tell you that if any malfunction occurs in my 2009 brake system, none of the safety features would be active but conventional braking will work fine. But yes. Do have it looked at by the dealer.

There is another thought. If there are issues with your alternator or your battery being low voltage, this can cause strange lights on the dash to light up as well. Having your battery tested may be another place to look as well.

I have the same problem, only the check engine light is on too. OI get a code of P0500 which is a speed sensor malfunction, the only thing is I have an auto which measures speed differently from a manual. The auto measures it from the wheel speed sensors, throught the ABS ecu, throught the combination meter, through the ECM. YOu have a speed sensor on your tcase, and a combination meter in line with that.

Let me know what the dealer says...

 

Problem was the right rear wheel speed sensor...problem solved.

 

The first two things to look at are the battery/alt and your wheel speed sensors, as mentioned. These are two critical components to your ABS system working properly.


FWIW, sometimes the wheel speed sensors will get some trash on them and cause a fault.

what did you do to it? was it dirty or broken?

 

Replaced 'er.

 

How much was the cost to replace? I have the exact same problem, but the dealer told me that my sensor was fine and that they couldnt find out why it keeps throwing that code. They ended up telling me all they could do was replace the entire abs system for about $2000......

 

ehh, I just took it to my normal guy (not a dealer) and it was $175 out the door, as I recall.

 

i noticed the abs light came on since i last dipped my rear in the lake to launch my boat. i was thinkin that there was some water in the sensor plug or something. but about 4-5 days later its still on so maybe i fryed the left and/or right sensor. i checked the fuse. is there anything else i could do by myself? can you reset the system or anything like that?

 

2005 lights flashing on dash, check eng light on. some days works some don't.

took it to autozone, there computer said it was the speed sensor. they could get one for 200.00

looks like there are sensors on each tire area and 2 on the transmission....

now which one (s) to replace?????
