I am going to replace my battery soon. I have decided to get a red top optima for my 06' w/towing package. Was wondering do I need the height adapter> And were is the cheapest place online to get one?

Do your research on the battery first...most of the guys on here have had issues with them.

What kinds of problems have folks had with them?

^^^ Yeah what issues were they having.

I looked on consumer reports and they say the NAPA batteries are good as well as diehard and duralast. Any experience with these.

I was looking at the optima yellow but I did not see a option for the tow package. Only red top has that option.

Where you looking? I have the tow package and I'm running a yellow top. Part #D35 is the replacement for the Tacoma w/ tow package. Issues? never had an issue with an Optima and have used them for the last ten years in different applications, Red/Yellow even Blue top.

If your going to go with the Optima I would go with the yellow top.. the only problem I've heard of with the red tops is if it dies it will never come all the way back, the yellow top is a deep cycle so it has no problem coming back from being completely dead. So if you leave your lights on once even if you get a jump it will never be the same. I have heard a ton of good feedback about the Odyssey which is the same battery as the Sears Platinum, basically its made by the same manufacturer just has a different label and a cheaper price tag under the Sears name. The only reason I would go for an Optima instead of an Odyssey would be if you want to mount the battery in a sideways position. Just my opinion.

oh, and the buzz on the street is.. call AAA for a battery.
they come out and install it free, and you get 3 years roadside assistance (for the battery and battery related issues)
I hear it's pretty cheap too.

but like I said, my yellow top is just fine.:D

I bought a red top and had it in my cj for a year and i somehow killed it before i deployed for another year. came back and went to buy a new one at advanced and he told me i could replace it for free, "good for life," he said. all i needed was a receipt and he found that in his computer even after buying at another store. i'm sold on optima. thats 150 bones i only have to spend one time no matter how many times i get drunk and leave the radio on.

What are the differences between the red top and the yellow top. I was thinking about buying one this next week... Who else makes a good battery?
