normal on a tacoma, but i think like others have stated, we shouldnt have to sand and spray our frames, i have seen gm frames that are just as old and come from the same factory that dont rust with bubbles like this, they must cheap out on some type of treating or they use a cheaper metal for the frame. just my opinion

Keee rist. Too much for a 5 year old truck. You wash the underbody regularly?

Idk if it helps, but I get the "rust inhibitor" whenever I go through a carwash. No rust on my 06, but that may be because I live in Georgia.

I would sand the shit out of it (you may need to grind at this point) and hit it with some POR. I would definitely try to keep it from getting any worse if you plan to keep the truck long term.

they spray a paint on like substance, or you can brush it on that is made to seal and protect the undercarriage, mostly just the frame

    Haha...not doing it...can't make me!
Dude skip the sand paper and go with a wire wheel, you can also find a spray that when you are finished with an area and need to get that last little bit of rust, will chemically turn the rust back in to it's original form....metal. You can find it in any marine store where you live or online. Don't remember the name but its great to get all oxidization before sealing...that is very important!

That's worse than my 1951 Chevy truck hell I've never seen that much rust on any frame and I live in Alaska we don't use salt on or roads though

Use POR15 it is the toughest undercoating and will stop the rust also its kind of expensive but well worth it I've done a whole frame off restoration on my 1951 Chevy and I painted every thing under my truck u. can spray it or brush it on

I find it repulsive that Toyota has not implemented changes in their manufacturing instructions to fix these rust issues. nad, your truck or anybody elses truck should not look like that after 5 years. There is something seriously wrong with Toyota and Dana corp.

Mine is showing some rust around the U-bolts and it's not even 1 year old and I live in an arid climate.

It looks like surface rust from dirt and salt building up over time. Ive seen newer trucks with as much surface rust and not just Tacomas, F250's and Dodge Rams etc... Any frame with get like that depending were its driven and how well its kept clean.

Ouch that looks bad. I never really bothered looking at my 06 to see the rust. How can I keep this from happening to my 2010? I try to keep up washing in the winter here.

That's not normal AT ALL! My 98 isn't as bad as this. You need to take it to Toyota and have them look at this because I see perforating rust in some pretty important areas! I wouldn't be surprised if cracks have already begun to develop due to the rust. GET IT CHECKED OUT!
