It was amazing!!! I always loved the Tacoma, but now I know why you guys are so into it. It was a brand new TRD Sport Dbl Cab, but when I accelerated I could hear a faint rattling sound coming from the engine. It only had 25 miles on the car. I asked the dealer, he said that's normal. Do any of your trucks have a faint rattling sound when you press on the gas?

    Tacoma's ROCK!!!!

I dont, Was it a Manual or automatic. My 6 speed deff has the Squeaky clutch MOD, and the Extremely squeaky rear leaf spring MODs done to it though.. really aggravating but it is an 06'... Hope you buy it, you will love it.

Nope, no rattle here.. Maybe it was just low octane, bad quality gas and it was just the timing pinging?

It was an automatic. Thank Matt, but I'm not intending to buy this one. I just test drove it to see if all my built up hype was legit, and it is. I'm still looking for a used tacoma.

Actually, the gas reading was at E and the orange light was on. Dealer didn't seem to care when I told him. Might that have been one reason?

I get the tick sometimes, but it doesn't seem to be anything but a tick. I can only hear it when I'm outside the truck so it doesn't bother me at all when driving. I don't think there is anything wrong.

Mine rattles like a 1980s Subaru. Sounds horrible. 2010, manual tranny, V6. But it seems to be common. Runs fine, plenty of power. I'm starting to tune it out now that I've got a couple K miles on it. It might not be so bad with an auto, mine does it at low RPMs when i'm getting on the gas, where an auto would upshift.

Ya we test drove the same type, almost got it too but got an SR5 LB DC instead. The salesman said the noise was more "growly" then the SR5. We got the SR5 since it's our family vehicle and less bumpy for the boys.

I'd love a 4x4 in the future when the babies get older.

Yeah the dealer told me the SR5 is smoother than the Sport and OR. That caught me by surprise a bit, to be honest. I asked my dad about the gas, he said most dealers do that nowadays just as an added safety feature so you can't go far with the car. That would make sense I guess because with 26 or so miles on the car, to be running on empty, makes me wonder

No, that's not normal. Though neither is redlining an engine with 25mi on the ODO.

The tick is a lot more prominent at idle and in drive through windows... in the cabin at WOT... it sounds pretty much like any great reving v6 should. At least mine did with a k&n drop in, TRD cat-back, and always synthetic oil and 91 octane QT or Chevron.

I had a friend buy a Tundra simply because he could not get over the tick from the Tacoma

Good call, I bought mine 1 year old with 25k miles. Saved a ton from the initial depreciation yet still only paid a bit more than 4-5 year old trucks. Yet mine had many newer features the older ones did not (6 air bags, A-Trac, JBL stereo, factory warranty etc)
