Fellow 2010 Owners please help...

Ok what is the difference between 2010 vs 2009 in the exciting world of aftermarket trailer wiring harnesses? I bought one at work today (Valley) for a 2009 thinking the vehicle application list just was not updated and it would fit. So far it is looking bad, my kit has two pig tails with 6 prong connectors and my truck only has one connector and it is 4 prong. I think I traced the wiring back as far as I can, I do not see any more connectors. Anyone put an aftermarket kit on their 2010?

Bah! Does your truck have 4 wires going into the back of the OEM connector, or 6? I want to tow my boat Sunday and the OEM kit is on back order until the 2nd, who knows when I will get it.

 

How heavy is the boat trailer and does it have brakes?
If not, then you should be able to convert from the trailer to a standard four plug without much difficulty.
If however you boat trailer has brakes, then the additional wiring is needed for the brake controller.

If no brakes on the trailer, find the wiring harness, plug in the 4 pin connector to the truck and then start testing the other lines to match left turn, right turn, brakes and running lights.

 

The boat is 500lbs soaking wet. I cannot find the two plugs under the truck. Basically I have the 4 prong harness that is "plug and play" but I can't find the plugs to plug it into. I'm pretty smart with cars, I have searched high and low under the truck I cannot find the two plugs. The instructions say 6 - 12 inches from the back bumper. I only find one plug that seems to be for the license plate lights, which is too small for the plugs on my valley harness. Is 2009 different than 2010? Do I have to take the tail lights off to find these two plugs? I'm at a loss, maybe I'll be waiting for my OEM one from Toyota...

 

You need to remove the tail lghts, the connectors are right there.

I know what you mean, I had to learn the hard way. Took half of the truck apart before I figured out where the connectors were.

 

Omg this is awesome I found the instructions for the factory hitch harness online, FUCK THAT, this kit is so much simpler. But it's dark now and I don't have a garage so I have to wait until tomorrow to install the kit.

 

I found that the wire that runs to the passenger side is just barely long enough on the trailer wiring adapter I bought. I think the 09+ trucks have those connectors further outboard on the wiring harness.

It worked, but I sure would have liked to have had about three more inches of wire for some slack.
