Not sure if I am describing them right but I am looking for a source (other than a dealer) to purchase the floor mat retainer clips. The only one I have appears to snap into a ringed whole in the floor and then into the floor mat.

    Thanks!

    Dealers supply for free.
If you have one broken or missing, they will provide. Talk to the parts guy at the dealer.

Yeah even if they won't give them to you for free, they are still only a couple bucks. Might as well save the time looking for them elsewhere and just get them there.

    But ...wait....

I thought we were all supposed to REMOVE our floor mats because of the accelerator thing. ????

Oh wait...if you took it in and they remodeled/cut your accelerator pedal, you could put your floor mats back in.

***this is actually true. I'm just poking fun***

If you want to know more....just do some research on the 'Sudden Acceleration' thing.

The recall notice I got from Toyota recommended that the driver's floor mat be removed until further notice. It also went on to say that IF you choose not to remove the floor mat, check the number on the back of the floormat and make sure it's the right one for your vehicle (the notice provided numbers and years/models), make sure that the plastic retainer clips are intact and installed correctly, make sure that the floor mat is not installed upside-down and make sure not to stack two mats on top of each other. Mine checked out fine and they are good, no problems. I even sewed up a custom terrycloth cover for my floor mat (to keep it clean) and still it does not even come close to interfering with the full travel of the accelerator. Just in case one of my clips breaks, my Dad sent me the plastic clips from his Highlander floor mats because he is always tracking sand and saltwater into his vehicles and so he always replaces his floor mats with heavy rubber mats.

If only I could get this done :( ......I am currently in import limbo because of this stupid recall. I can't finish importing my Taco into Canada until this recall is fixed.....of course the remedy hasn't been released for the Tacoma yet.....seems like every other freakin' model has been release except the Tacoma. To add insult to injury, no one at Toyota is willing to give(and others) me a timeline as to when the remedy will be available. There I'm done.. /RANT.

Get a set of the Weathertech mats and you won't need the passenger clips. The only clips that are used with these mats are the driver side clips. I have two left over that are not being used. If you pay the shipping you can have the clips for free because I don't need them and do not plan on using factory mats.

Weathertech mats are the best fit for the Tacoma IMO. They fit exactly to the floor.

thank you guys. Just thought I'd clarify the weathertech FloorLiner info. Just bought my 2009 one month ago in 2019. My first purchase was the liners, very happy.

I have the husky liner exact fit. They fit perfectly and use the factory clips. People actually use the oem crap mats.

Until recently, every time I had the oil changed at the stealership (got the package deal when I bought the truck) - I would get a WARNING that I was using non-factory mats in my truck. The originals were junked long ago and Weathertech mats with holes to use the factory clips have been in there ever since.

If the factory mats were of decent quality - no one would be changing them.....
