Deaver Leaf Springs: 08 Tacoma bottoms out?

Hi all,

Sorry I'm new to this forum, so hope I'm not violating any rules posting this.

I have an 08 taco with after market suspension and lift, 10 pack deaver leaf springs on the rear. I bought it used about six months ago with the after market parts already installed. I've noticed lately that it seems to bottom out even over very benign terrain. I can see marks on the frame from the bump stops. Three different mechanics have stated that the leaf springs need to be rearched (lowest quoted price was $550). The original owner of the truck says that the springs are fine, and the sliders are actually causing the noise by hitting the frame. I really don't know what to do, and I just want to be able to drive on gravel roads at normal speeds without it sounding like the world is going to end. Anyone have any advice?

Can you get pictures of the leaf springs and marks where the bump stops hit?

 

for 550 you could buy new springs.

And yes, the first picture was taken level to the ground.

 

Thats with nothing in the bed? Those are done.

 

Just my opinion but those things look worn out. I would agree that you either need a new pair of leaf springs or get them re-arched. Depending on the age, buying new might be the best bet to get better quality.

Yes, $550.....the same robbers quoted me $850 for new stock springs. I have the stock springs though, so I could just replace the Deavers. It seems strange that the Deavers have gone to crap after so little time. The truck has 24K miles and never had more than camping gear in the back (and me sleeping in it.)

 

yea those things are flat as a pancake. take out one of the leafs from that pack and add it in to your factory pack, that way you wont lose any heigh but gain your trucks drivability back

 

$550 is a lot...I took my Deaver 10 Pack to Deaver here in SoCal and I spent $250. That included new bushings, u-bolts, and I had them add a leaf while they were at it.

 

If that is how it sits without the canopy on it, then yeah they seem flat. Either new springs or get them re-arched. Also a set of Better bump stops and new shocks if yours are old will help too. But mostly it looks like a spring issue.
