    ^^^ Dean.....

I dont remember if this was covered after your warranty was up or not cause I got my fixed a couple years ago on my 2006 TRD Sport but I believe I was under the warranty miles but I'm not positive? I'll see if I can find the work invoice for it. I'm sure its pretty pricey out of pocket cause I know they have to lift the engine to fix the problem and the dealership had my car for about 4-5 days if I'm not mistaken. Your right though and since its a manufacturer defect they should fix it.

If your engine blows from a minor oil leak, would it not be your negligence?

    You are either
trolling, extremely nieve or stupid. Gaskets and seals do dry and shrink over time, no matter how well you take care of your vehicle.

There may have every well been some issues with the factory sealing in this area. However if it did not occur until 121 K miles ( twice the warranty period ) you need to grow the fuck up and get it repaired.

    Please go buy a Dodge!

To get your attention. See it works.

Why do you not use your head Squatcher? Gaskets and seals do not last forever.

Since I was way out of the warranty requirements I ended up doing this repair myself. If anyone needs some insight on repairing it. I am more than happy to help. All the parts cost around $250 and the repair time was about 12 hours. It takes a bit of patience and a lot of elbow grease but it was totally worth it.

How about doing a "how to" post on it? A common issue, it would be valuable insight for TW.

Why are you still going on about this troll. First i said it before and ill say it again hoping that you will go away and disappear. You had 60,000 miles to address this issue to apparantley you did not because either it wasnt a problem then or you were to ignorant to check your truck for issues before. Yes an oil leak is very obvious if you either look under your truck or check the block when you say CHECK YOUR OIL! You have 132000 miles now, you are either dumb or naive to not understand at the mileage your truck is at that things like your timing chain seal could be worn out by chance...its mechanical in nature!!! Things wear out. Please stop whining about this issue, either follow the guidance other have given you and fix it yourself or pay the dealer to fix it and stop blaming Toyota for your ignorance and for gods sake quit trolling !!

and the problem is caused by the power steering pump being to wide and prying on the timing cover and messing the seal up. so just doing the TSB will not permanantly fix the problem

Mines fixed and has been for 40,000 miles. No leaks. When I'd did leak while viably noticeable it wasn't noticeable on the dipstick

thats cool, but the power steering pump is partly the cause. hell, after i replaced my engine, i couldnt even get the old PS pump into the post it goes on the new engine at all. if i did, the timing cover would have been pushed forward. i ended up takin a dremel to the mountin point on the top bolt of the PS pump and removed a little bit of metal (i hardly had to grind any down at all) and it slid right into the spot no problems what so ever

The TSB calls for replacing the gasket. When I took mine to the dealer they pulled the engine and the Service Advisor told me that the cover was reengineer hence the reason for needing my truck a whole day. Don't know if this is true or not, all I know is no more leak, no loss of oil.

i know its to replace the gasket, but tell me this, why does it only leak in that one spot? its becuase the PS pump is a very very tight fit in there and pries on the timing cover

thats a good post about the problem

Not disagreeing with you in any way, just saying its possible Toyota modded the gasket/cover to accommodate the gap...or is the ps pump different on earlier/later years. If the condition remained the same why wouldn't I have another leak? Also wouldn't the tech realize the pump didn't fit properly when reassembling the cover?

So is the answer to why newer Tacomas do not have this issue (1) a modified PS pump mount? (2) a re-engineered TC cover? or ??

Does anybody have a photo showing the PS pump mod where material is ground off the mount point for the top bolt on the PS pump? Not understanding what is described.

Mine is barely weeping oil at that location on the TC , and I have been watching it.

Yes this would be interesting to learn that the cover was redesigned, which would mean it was indeed a design flaw.

Hey I got a 2005 tacoma 4.0 and it's got a leak. Does the timing cover have a gasket or do the sprocket leak. What is a tsb? Thank you. I tried looking for videos on how to fix the leak but no luck

Mine will get resealed when I pay to have the head gaskets changed.
